Maybe I'm wrong but Fields seems to be hurt a lot. Glad we have some other corners who can step in if need be

Targeting seems to be an issue in every game i watch

there are hits that are much more obvious than Terrell's in other games Saturday that were not called or even mentioned by the announcers. I don't remember which game, but there was one that didn't get called that the announcers questioned but there was no review at all. It is definitely called too inconsistently for it to be fair to the players.

I think making the penalty for targeting be wearing ankle weights for couple of quarters. That would be fun to watch!
Seems odd when offensive player used crown of HIS helment to hit side of defender. Something wrong with that call!!

I suffer from that Old Man memory lapse thingy, short and long term. So I'm asking you guys that still have a great memory, has Mitch Hyatt ever had to miss a game bc of a FB injury since coming to Clemson? Personally, I don't remember him ever missing a game for any reason!!!

Regarding Mitch Hyatt's starts...

I think D Hood said that Mitch would be starting his 53rd consecutive game against BC Saturday night, so I guess the answer to your question is "no." I'm sure he has left games early, maybe due to injury, but he's started every game, except maybe the first game his freshman year. So, that would be 14 in 2015, 15 in 2016, 14 in 2017, and 9 in 2018. Please excuse if I misquoted David (did he actually just say he would be making his 53rd start--not necessarily consecutive?)... I also have the Old Man Memory Disease. I do know that I have really enjoyed watching him "have the QB's back" for 4 years.

I agree with Dabo! Not a single replay showed AJ “Targeting” the Louisville player by leading with his helment or tackling in the head and neck area! It was a hard but completely legal hit! It can’t be Targeting if the player being tackled lowers his head then hits the tackler with the crown of his helment! The review committee has zero credibility! Just another example of ACC bias, lead by John Swofford, against Clemson!

Same type of “targeting” call was overturned in LSU/Alabama game. At least it looked the same to me. LSU defender turned his head right before helmet to helmet contact.

I had exactly the same thought. But the SEC folks got it right this time. They didn't when White (LSU) was suspended for a game.

The announcers questioned the call as well, and then posted the rule that cited that any portion of the [tackler's] helmet up to and "behind the face mask" (?) that strikes the head or neck area of the player is a targeting foul, even if he turns his head to avoid hitting with the crown of his helmet. In my experience and memory, never has a player with possession of the ball ever been charged with targeting. And btw, has "targeting" ever been called against an offensive lineman, or defensive lineman, or others playing away from, or off the point of the hit, ever? Apparently, it's only called against a man hitting the player in possession of the ball.
I'm all for safety in this sport, and the intent of the rule is commendable in support of safety, but this rule, and the circumstances under which it's called, needs some serious investigation.

I think that most even from around the country would disagree with a targeting call on that play bc there was no leading with the helmet, and there was an attempt to soften the helmet to helmet contact by Terrell to avoid a hard clash of their heads. The refs that make those types bad calls actually feel good about themselves bc they made a targeting call even when it wasn't really!!! They act as if they have saved a player when they actually done nothing but harmed a player that meant no harm. That would leave me if I were a player, if I saw that our helmets may clash, make it actually count bc they are going to get the call of targeting anyway, and they will get ejected just the same, and they will miss half the next game just the same, so protect them selves without any concern for anybody but self and leave caution in the wind, why not, they suffer the same as if it was intentional!!! It was clear that when AJ felt there was going to be helmet to helmet contact, he made an attempt to lesson the impact, and he was treated just the same as if it was intentional!!!

I absolutely agree with coach, the rule states “with the crown of the helmet “ the only one that used the crown was the offensive player. That was a terrible call. GO TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!

I looked up the offical Targeting rule. Using those guide lines, Terrell absolutely got screwed. AJ dipped his right shoulder before contact and made contact before his helmet touched the return man. Besides that, the side of the helmet is not part of the crown. Players are coached to hit with shoulders and to be legal if you can see what you are hitting, youre good.
AJ turned his head to the left before impact. His head was up and he could see what he was about to hit. He did not dip his head, je turned his head on a horizontal plane. Horrible call.
