Didn't get to watch or listen, but dang, sounds like the light has officially come back on. This shows again what this team is capable of. Don't break out the champagne just yet though; the climb out of mediocrity is not complete - not by a long shot. So keep it up and make the NCAA Tournament. Then win a tournament game. That's the expectation; do that and THEN you can light up the cigars and bust out the bubbly.

Imagine being Pitt, 2nd in the ACC - and unranked.
Weird, huh?

Oh, and before you ask what my point is, my point is that “mediocre” is the word for the ACC this year, in case you didn’t realize that.
You’re welcome.

The NCAAs might be a surprise re: ACC teams.

The conference may indeed be mediocre, but at this stage of the season, irs hard to really tell.
It’s been a long time since December.
Only ACC teams vs ACC teams since then.
We’ll see.

If Clemson basketball can be consistently 4th in a league with Duke & UNC (and all of their 5 star players), how can you be disappointed? Find me a replacement coach who will come here with expectations to be consistently the #1 or #2 team in the ACC.
Be realistic! This was and is a GREAT year, and I'd like more of the same... and maybe better. But to fire Brownell after this season would be STUPID!!!

and of itself, and I am proud of our guys for it, but keep it in perspective. In a year when the ACC has only one top 10 team (which we have not played yet) and only 2 top 25 teams, and we are not even in the top 30 and are on the bubble for a tournament bid, then no, objectively and honestly, it's not that impressive. So far, we dont have very many impressive wins against ranked teams, and we have some bad losses. Plus, keep in mind that when Brownell got here, the standard was making the NCAA Tournament every year. In 12 years so far, he's done it three times, once with Purnell's players.
So, yes, celebrate the 21 wins so far, be optomistic and encouraged by all means, but keep it in perspective. Still a long way to go. Failing to make the NCAA Tournament this year is a flat out failure - accept it. If we make the tourney, and get knocked out in the first round, then we're exactly where we started when Brownell got here 13 years ago. Don't be mad at me for reality.

if we finished 7th, that would be pretty good! So, the key is to have extremely low expectations! Got it!

wins and a 4th place finish in a weak ACC, with no NCAA tournament wins, then your expectations are too low, and those kind of low expectations will guarantee that Clemson basketball never takes the next step to being a better basketball school than it has traditionally been.

My point is: is the “expectation” really that we make the NCAA Tournament and win a game?
I thought that point was obvious, but since you are here let me ask you: is it your expectation that we will make the NCAA Tournament and win a game?

and coaches and administrators. Anything less is either a flat-line or regression from when Brownell arrived 13 years ago. That's just a fact.

We finished top 4 was the 2006-2007 season.
No matter how folks wanna slice it, if we clinch a 4 seed double bye (one win away) that is actually a pretty dadgum good season.
Anyways, I hope they finish strong and leave no doubt to get the big dance invitation.

last 13 years under Brownell. It's "dadgum good" given the pathetically low expectations for this team. If it ends there, it's not "dadgum good", in the sense that it's not an improvement over where we were when Brownell arrived 13 years ago. Its not "dadgum good" if you are serious about your basketball program. If we make the tourney, and actually advance past the first round, then there's something to hang your hat on; it's a very positive step and a good sign.
Right now, declaring this season so far as a rousing success is just a reflection of the sad, low expectations Clemson fans have for their basketball program. For me, yeah, so far it has been a pretty good year, and this team has shown flashes of being really good; but like I said, the job is not done yet, and it is yet to be determined how good this season is.

Really happy for the last two wins, even if it means CBB is retained as a result. I would never wish to lose just to get rid of CBB. I hope for several more in a row, too.
OTOH, just because we're having a positive year, it can't excuse CBB's body of work as a whole, and the baffling losses that stack up year after year after year, along with still getting blown out often enough.
It still seems like the inexcusable losses may keep Clemson out of the NCAAT, despite a strong finish. That can change, I know, but right now that's the picture.
If CBB could have managed to NOT lose to Loyola-Chicago and Louisville and SCAR, we'd be riding high in the ACC, bound for NCAA tournament, and maybe justification to pretend for another year or two that CBB was the man to get Clemson basketball over the hump to a consistent winning tradition.
But he DID lose those games, and we're probably NOT going to the NCAAT.
We can chose to keep him, and be happy with the positives he does bring to the position, but accept being slightly-above average for the long term.
Or maybe NEXT year will be the one! Or the one after that. Or the one after that.
