Man accused of Howard's Rock vandalism could face 10 years in prison
A 20-year-old accused of damaging and carrying away part of Howard's Rock in 2013 can now face up to 10 years in prison after more severe charges were recently filed.
Michael Rogers was served today in the Pickens County Courthouse with the new arraignment by a grand jury, for charges of grand larceny and malicious injury to property worth more than $10,000.
He was originally charged with malicious injury to property worth over $2,000 and with a trespassing offense.
The rock is a long-venerated symbol of Clemson University's Tiger football team and sits above the field at the stadium. A part of the rock was broken off in June 2013. There is now a cover over the rock.
Rogers remains free on bond.
A date for his trial has not been set.
The charges were made more severe after state prosecutors established that the damage was valued at more than $10,000.

So he can get more time in prison than some murderers and rapists? Something not right there. Don't get me wrong I'm as ticked as everyone else about our rock being vandalized, but ten years?
How about community service where he has to clean up the campus every day for a year or more. I just want the piece back!

Doubt we're getting the piece back.

And as much as it would stink to ruin this young man's life, someone has to serve as an example. You do NOT mess with things like this, and everyone needs to know.

it's likely being held as evidence until the legal process runs its course.

10 years in prison

I'm gonna have to agree on this one. 10 years prison is pretty harsh for what the guy did. Now making him do community service for 5 to 10 years in and around Clemson University then that is a fair price to pay for what the idiot did.

It's hard to feel terribly bad for the guy. There's some sort of massive narcissism at work for the guy to willfully destroy something that's so iconic and so important to so many people...just so he could have a piece of it to bolster his own sense of self-importance.
Normal people do not do stuff like this. Solipsistic narcissists who think they're the center of creation do that.
Throw the book at him. The world won't miss this turd.

that seems a little stiff, as heinous a crime as it was. The poor kid would get turned out in the first week.

/ evidence in the eyes of the law? Maybe that is why it was never returned, if it even still exists.
