How the hail did we get so pompous that...

we speculate on what we'd trade a National Championship for? Does anyone here think those NCs grow on trees?
No, there's nothing I would trade a National Championship for unless it's life, liberty or health.

about 10 years ago I prayed I could live to see Clemson win a national title. God in His infinite wisdom ignored me.

I agree. As great as we have been we have only been able to win one every other season (hopefully that changes in a month). Winning a National Championship is really hard and not only requires being a tremendous team, but a little luck as well.
I think we'll always be in the playoff for the forseeable future, but it honestly only takes a bad break (showing up flat, an injury, etc.) to take you out even if you have the best team.

Somehow hard work, focus and a good game plan seems to generate good luck. You don't luck your way into 30-3 and 44-16.

I think you misinterpreted my post. In know way was I saying Clemson has achieved the massive success they have because of luck. In fact I said Clemson will probably always be in the playoff or at the very least the playoff conversation every single year Dabo is here because of all the tremendous aspects of this program. However, going 15-0 every single season does require some good luck. Good luck can be as simple as staying healthy or another team not getting a lucky break in a close game against us.
Bottom line is just because we're always in contention (even often times favorites) for a National Championship doesn't mean it just happens. Hence why you always take a guaranteed National Championship when offered.

I have been a UF fan since my cousin played for them 1969-71. I became a Clemson fan too when my daughter was accepted in 2005. I followed the NFL from 1967-through the 90s but not much after that. Charley Pell stepped UF up in the early mid 80s, but with the "Bama way" and the NCAA followed the path to both schools. Spurrier made UF consistently relevant for 12 years (won the NC in 96). When he left for the NFL, UF still recruited well but underachieved until Meyer brought them back to elite status 2006-09 seasons. His last season (2010) was uninspired and UM was followed by two bad HC hires. I think Mullen is doing very well but still has prior damage to repair. It is natural for most fan bases to have high expectations after success like Spurier and Meyer had a UF, and like Ford had some in the 80s. Dabo has taken Clemson even higher than Ford and in the age of social media; expectations are at an all time high.
I hope Clemson wins the NC again, but just making the CFP is still awesome. Win or lose this year, I think Clemson will be in the CFP discussion for quite a while.
