TE was Ken MacAfee. I was told on their last drive, he came to the line and told our DT playing over him, “to tighten his chin strap.” He was one of the greatest TEs to play college ball in my opinion.

Seems like he was the one that caught the 3rd and something like 31 pass from Montana that lead to a TD.

As I recall, Ken Callicut had a big turnover late in the game that gave ND the ball back and they converted it into a game winning drive.

And Jim Stuckey recovered the clinching fumble a few minutes later. Bet Montana wasn't giving Clemson the finger then.

I was at the '77 game and at the '79 game. I definitely liked the '79 result better than the '77 game. I'll bet ND did not allow the visiting team to have balloons in their stadium after the '79 game.

Me and my late sister were there. I was 15 then and she was 19. Mom and dad packed us a lunch and sent us to the hill early that day. We were on the hill at 10:30 for a 1 o’clock game. One of the most wild and rowdy crowds that I’ve ever been a part of.

I was there and remember it like it was yesterday. Clemson is leading 17-7 in the 4th quarter and driving in for a clenching score when Ross Browner forces Steve Fuller to lay it on the ground. Montana to Vegas Ferguson for about 80 yards and we go on to lose 21-17. The game that introduced the world to "The Comeback Kid" Joe Montana.

Like FSU, had that game won and we blew it...

Dan Devine was furious at an official’s call, so he ran way out on the field and picked up the flag He was promptly given another penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. The next recollection is more fuzzy, but I think I remember some CU fans near the bottom rows throwing sardines at the ND players when they came on the field.

Sitting at home listening to Jim Philips
3
Oct 4, 2023, 4:51 PM
|
|
The game came on the air and Jim was almost whispering..."there's an eerie quiet in Death Valley today..."
He went on to tell the story about the silent treatment we were giving ND...explained the band was on the field marching, but not playing their instruments...
I had chills even listening to it on the radio...
Then for a brief second you heard the cannon go off...them you could tell Jim was yelling but he was being drowned out by the crowd...I guess he had the window open in the press box.
Really wish I had been there.

Ken McAfee the TE also. ND had this one drive where it seem like he caught about 8 passes. ND kept getting first downs called back on penalties what seem like 6 times. They still scored a TD on the longest yard drive I ever remember due to the penalties. BOY that VALLEY was noisy that day.

4th and 24 and they hit McAfee for 25 yards and a first down on the play before they scored the winning TD. Had they not made that FD, time would have expired. How about Dan Devine running out to the Paw and twirling around to the crowd shooting both birds at everyone.

I was there sitting on the hill for the 1st time ever. I usually sat in my dad’s good reserved seats in the North lower deck but apparently got pushed to the hill for this big A$$ game so his friend(s) could use the extra seats in the lower deck! It was a really exciting game UNTIL the end when they beat us. It was so disappointing to lose that game. My dad got to go a few years later when we beat them in South Bend.

Was there, UR - F 22-24, third year with season tickets for 33 years. First game since attending from the late 50s when EVERYONE stood the entire game. Two fumbles by an RB who was prone to do it let ND claim victory. Seem to recall both times the Tigers had good drives underway.
