How is mental toughness achieved within a football program?

Sep 22, 2014, 5:20 PM

Do you think it's through strength and conditioning program? Coaches' methods and demeanors? The way practices are conducted? Or is it just something a recruit mainly either has or has not when he steps foot on the campus day one?

Don't let the blind optimists get you down.

as I recall he has coached but not played the game. Do as I say not as I did. Reminds me of some third world dictator

TOUGH LOVE. Can you imagine Spurrier's post game presser for FSU if he coached Clemson? After Vanda game he told their players that their play was an embarrassment to the school, the coaches, and themselves. What does Dabo say? I'm proud of you guys. I appreciate the sentiment but sometimes tough love is necessary to lite a fore under their butts.

Mental training (toughness) can be trained, just like how you can train a physical skill.

Problem for Lakip is he's in his own head...you can't simulate the environment at FSU...Catman missed some early in his days(at Auburn), but never as bad and grew from it.

We'll see what happens.
