A season-high 20 points on 6-14 shooting, a plus-minus of + 17, 5 three's (on 8 shots) which matches an overall career high and sets a new career high in ACC play if I'm not mistaken. He played well against UNC and Syracuse (even though his individual scoring and shooting wasn't terrific against the Heels), so it was great to see him continue that good momentum and finally have a 20-point game tonight. His defense was good, he looked confident, and he was comfortable and involved both shooting from range and driving into the paint to score and take contact.
It's not like he was bad before, but he's been kinda down for a lot of this year in terms of his individual production. It just hasn't been on the level we expected based on how good he was last year. Earlier in the year it seemed his confidence was low, he was struggling with his shot (especially from range), and his defense wasn't good. Maybe this was because of having to adjust to Girard's presence and a different personnel grouping, or maybe he was just going through a shooting slump. Who knows. But we all know how good Chase can be when he's right, so to see him finally start playing the way he has of late and especially to have a game like he had tonight was just fantastic. I've always liked Chase, and you know that mediocre start to the year had to have been weighing on him, so I'm really happy for him that he finally had a great scoring night, you know that's gotta feel good for him and do wonders for his confidence.
In particular, seeing him shoot the ball well and from three was terrific because that's the area he was struggling in the most offensively. If Chase plays this well he can be a legit 3rd star for this team. So overall I'm just thrilled for Chase to finally be rewarded with a night like tonight, and I hope he can keep it up because he makes Clemson so much better when he's playing at his best. He could make a massive difference to this team in terms of what its ultimate upside is. You could kinda tell this was coming based on the past couple games, but that looked like a true breakout game, so hopefully Chase is "broken out" now. Good game, Go Tigers, and Bravo Chase! Kudos to him
Its nice to see him make some 3's. He excels in midrange, driving to the rim and ft's. I wish he would get a little more out of the midrange because it gives the other team something to defend.
