Ever been happy someone died?

From Obed's post below, I had to think about about that for a minute.
I don't know if I've said it out loud or written it, but I'll admit to being not only amused a little but generally relieved when there have been some that have "transitioned to the other side of being alive".
I particularly remember thinking about one person I knew that dropped over and thinking "wow, I'm kinda glad he's dead." I was glad about it then, and I don't think I've ever felt bad about thinking that, or wished I hadn't had that feeling.
I used to think that made me a terrible person, but with age, that's just another one of those things I don't really care about.

Like my father. He suffered a last four years of his life to a level I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. It was horrible watching him, and his condition decline. He never stood on his two feet for 3+ years. Couldn't talk, fed with a tube, just horrible. When he passed away I was sad, but at the same time I was also happy (relieved is a better term) that he was free from a life that had been so wonderful, but had ended so slowly and horribly.
Generally, personally, I'm not "happy" to see anyone die, ever. Period. But for some people, depending on how they go, the end is a big relief, for family, and for the person suffering. And for that, I guess there is some degree of happiness, for them and their families.

But I meant more for people that were generally terrible people. Like Hotsawce mentioned OJ. Or Saddam Hussein. Or somebody maybe I knew personally that seemed like he went out of his way to make others lives worse, and got some strange enjoyment from that.

Hitler, Saddam, whoever. HOWEVER, I can see the happiness their death can bring to others, like Jews in concentrations camps, or people in dungeons being tortured, or whatever else their death may improve in the world, and with people. But the happiness I would have when Saddam died wasn't because Saddam died, but the happiness would be for the people liberated, who will never be punished, tortured, or killed by him.
I mean if you're his son or whatever, it's a tragic thing, no matter of your dad is Hitler, Mao, or Saddam Hussein. Likewise, the millions freed by their deaths, the millions made happier by their deaths, those OTHER people, their happiness makes me happy. Not his death.
I hope this makes sense.

It was like that with both my mom's parents. My grandmother had cancer for 5 years and the last year was awful. My grandfather had dementia for a few years and was in his 90s.
My dad had aggressive frontal lobe dementia and it was the most awful thing ever. Luckily he knew my kids but not me, I could handle that. We knew that he was never going to get better and I was relieved when he passed because that shell was definitely not the person I knew all my life.
Doesn't make it easier that's for sure.

There was an older girl in high school that I liked one time. Her boyfriend died in a car accident. When I got the news, my immediate feeling was that I was glad. It didn't feel right, but I couldn't help it. My competition had been eliminated.
I never dated the girl, but I did end up boinking her cousin who looks just like her.
I've really always felt a little off about this. My response to death is generally pretty weird.

And that's another one of those things I won't care about when its my time. Did anyone wish my death? Were they happy for it? Why should I care? Why would I?

There was a real A hole of a bully in my neighborhood growing up. He was only a year or two older than us but this guy had to have been shaving in like the 6th grade so he could pretty much slap us around any time he wished. One day we find out he killed himself the previous night and I'm not sure if I was happy to hear it (although I might have been it was a long time ago) but I was definitely relieved. Found out later his father had beaten him constantly and he had lashed out at everyone else in response, before killing himself. Actually felt bad for him after that.
