How big is cheating via AAU in basketball recruiting?

I hear it's huge and unless you've got the tradition of Duke you have to play that game to get the best players. I am a little fed up with CBB's end game decisions but is he hamstrung in recruiting because Clemson won't cheat? I'm not advocating cheating but wonder if we really stand much of a chance against the likes of Louisville and UNCheat if cheating is the norm and the NCAA is going to continue to have a blind eye.

It is 10 times dirtier than college football recruiting. It is the lowest of low. Adults selling a kid out to The highest bidder.almost impossible to consistently compete unless you're cheating. And if you think the North Carolina's and dukes of college basketball don't cheat….

To be mid level ACC at best? I just don't see the Clemson administration backing cheating.
I can see how Dabo can compete without cheating when it's not as prevalent in football. But if it's 10 times worse in basketball seems like it would be virtually impossible to field a competitive team - unless you can magically find the few kids not manipulated by the AAU guys.

So....i am curious....how is it that the AAU cheats when it comes to recruiting? I don't know much about the organization and this thread made me wonder.
