Evidence that Cooperstown Will House a Tiger

17

Jul 27, 2023, 2:17 AM

Strider is sitting at 199 K's in 123 IP (Innings Pitched) and will break his own record for fastest ever to 200 K's in a season when he next takes the mound. Last year his record was in 130 IP.

He boasts the fastest pitch ever recorded by a starting pitcher (102.4 mph). His 14.6 K/9 IP is historically the highest ever and he is poised to set the record for least IP in a 300 K season. The only thing that will realistically prevent him from achieving this feat will be the Braves resting him for multiple scheduled starts.

This Tiger deserves for us to be very proud of him! Go invest in a baseball card or two - Strider will make it worthwhile.

his mechanics are amazing...the swagger he finishes his strikeouts with is super fun to watch.

As great as he is, It's a long road to the HOF.

I agree with you.

However, all of the records that he is shattering belong to Hall of Famers. The fastest to 200 K's record used to belong to some fella named Randy Johnson. The last pitcher to hit 300 K in a season quickly became the highest paid pitcher in MLB history.

I seriously doubt Harold Reynolds is in the MLB Hall of Fame. 🤣

Not to throw water on your fire, but I believe Nolan Ryan threw faster than 102.4.

That may be true, but they didn't start recording velocity until 2008.

I remember watching a broadcast of Ryan pitching with an early radar clocking him. May have been one of the first times radar was used. He got above 105, I believe 106 was his max. I understand that it’s not official.

The key to a long HOF career is to develop into a pitcher. Verlander has done that as the innings and injuries have accumulated. Strider isn’t likely to retain that kind of velocity over the years. Guys like Nolan Ryan are a rarity. Anyhow, he’s young and plenty of time to develop other quality pitches to compensate when the top end of his fastball decreases.
