It was the staff around him (BV) and his ability to recruit elite players (prior to NIL) he has either of those now, and it is showing badly

Our recruiting is at roughly the same level it has been throughout the Dabo era. The recruiting service rankings show this. Maybe the portal issue is a bigger impact?
Also, maybe BV had a bigger role than Dabo, but no way to prove that yet. BV is just starting to make Oklahoma relevant in the national, playoff picture again.

No our recruiting isn’t at the same level as in years past. We used to get the #1 qb in the country. We got that 2 cycles in a row…that’s why we won 2 nattys. Not the case anymore

DJU and Cade were both VERY highly rated coming out of high school, and we’ve still seen a drop off these last 5 years.
Now if you’re talking QB recruiting the last 3 years, I agree.

our recruiting is absolutely NOT the same level as it was with BV. With BV we got DOGS on the defense side and it helped make the dogs on offense make an easier decision on who may win a Natty in the near future. Scott/Elliot helped a lot too, and after they left, our offense has gone down hill tremendously.

He gets credit for surrounding himself with the right people and being an amazing recruiter. But it simply isn't working anymore. No need to try and delete good history though.

Umm he was still responsible for the staff around him and the players. So yes he is the reason why we got to the top

He was the man in his day. He still hired all those coaches. That’s the Head coaches job. Right now is a struggle. We’ll see what happens from here.

No, I disagree with this. You saw immediate change when Dabo took over. There was pride in the players they played physical. We could win the close game.
There’s a lot more than just we don’t have Brett Venables anymore. If Tony Elliott was so great, he’d be doing great at Virginia. If Jeff Scott was so great he would’ve done great at South Florida. Chad Morris was a horrible head coach and then wasn’t even a good offensive coordinator after that. Brent Venables honestly hasn’t even been good at Oklahoma. This is the first year. We are seeing a good team and that’s because he hit on transfers.
I don’t think anybody’s gonna be able to pinpoint what happened to Dabo. I think it’s a combination of recruiting, the kids of this generation are different, juggling the transfer portal and NIL, and all the coaches that are under Dabo are following his lead. I don’t think they also forgot how to coach. Matt Luke did not forget how to coach offensive line. I’m sorry. Something is off that runs deep in this program. It’s not an easy answer it just to say we had better coaches back then.

It was Venables and two of the best QBs to play the game in the last 30 years. We won despite a bad offensive scheme because we had incredible QB play. Our defense was amazing, but it was entirely Venables.

Dabo got the recruiting engine working, built a program, hired great people, and then lost his way.
He can potentially find it back - but the game has changed at the most inopportune time for him.

Look, the only thing that matters is something is off this year. Is it inside the locker room over NIL money, it is the defensive players have not accepted Tom Allen and his defense, are there no leaders on the team, was it shattered expectations after the LSU game, who knows. Regardless of the cause of the issues, there is now only one thing to do, step up, play for pride and meet the goal of avenging the loss to the coots.

BV would need to get a natty at OU before talk of him being the "cause" of Dabo’s success made any potential sense. Also, OU is more ready built for any coach to come in on 3rd base than what Dabo built, including before hiring BV, at Clemson.

Great players were recruited and still are- the difference is they are no longer pushed to their greatest potential. I tend to think that Coach BV was the key Cog in the machine to put an ELITE defense on the field and then we had NFL talent that could take advantage of extra opportunities on Offense.

It was Dabos recruiting, and coaching staff gets credit for everything else.
Dabos old tactics of landing the 5 stars don't work on pay to play era.
All players care about now is salary and prep for NFL.
Here lately, Clemson is sucking in both categories.
