Asking for realistic preview

When Dabo was true underdog, building Clemson to compete for and win National Championships, we all felt that a toughness and determination was being fostered, created and instilled.
That is what is needed to beat UGA Saturday and stand atop this conference again as the main obstacle to any other ACC team winning the conference.
I hope that can still be conjured and resurrected. But I just do not feel that spirit in Clemson football much anymore. I question if Cade has the merit and steel to carry a team to a win, to will a team to win. I wonder who has the fortitude on DLine to dominate. Who is the Boulware never say die guy.
I just do not feel that the team as a whole has enough strength, grit, toughness.
So my questions... 1. Do you feel that grit, toughness, tenacity exists in Clemson?
2. Who is driving, coaching, inspiring and rebuilding a toughness for Clemson now?
3. What do you really think will happen vs UGA? How will we play?

I think toughness is relevant. I think experienced, tough-love coaching is too.

We lost some old-school, salty, war-daddy-type coaches. And we replaced them with former Clemson players who lacked experience. I think that trickled down.
But we hired Luke and Rumph and I think those were two HUGE steps in the right direction.

This 100%. No issue with hiring Alumni but you can't overload the staff with green coaches. Got to have some seasoning in the chili so to speak.

I’d be surprised if their 2024 team is better than their 2021 team or that we could be much worse now than 2021.
I think this game will be more of the same. This game will be a knife fight in a phone booth.

You bring up an interesting point. I asked about personnel matchups in another thread, but concerning each teams' position groups, where do you think Clemson has improved, and what positions maybe not so much? We're not as good at DL, and perhaps ILB, but I'd suggest that we are better at QB, WR, OL, DB and Special Teams. We should be about the same at RB, and OLB/DE. What would you say about each of Clemson's groups?

Clemson football and Dabo in particular have been enduring lots of hits, all negative. Finebaum and a few other media types seem to be doing all they can to kill Clemson recruiting with constant unwarranted attacks. At some point it has to have an effect. It truly is sickening to hear day after day; especially the idiot Finebaum who delights in absurdly denigrating Clemson, trying to convert them into a Rodney Dangerfield joke. Realistically, Georgia just has too many 4 and 5 star bodies to overcome. I just hope it’s a close game with no major injuries.

Have you checked the starting lineups? About the same. Granted the depth is different, but we should compete.

I’d feel better if the game was at Clemson. I don’t consider ANY game in Georgia to be “neutral”. Advantage Georgia. Depth can play a huge role, especially late in the game. Anyway, I hope they play their hearts out. Go Tigers!

they gave Clemson any credit when they were truly the best program in the country. All of 2018, we heard everything about Alabama and how great they were all season long. Only heard how great Clemson was after that beatdown in California. We were called a fraud of a program by Colin Cowherd before DW4 brought home the first natty. Never did Clemson get any credit while they were on top except for the week after winning a title.
Because of that, you can't pay attention to the noise. Clemson will never be as bad as the media says we are when we're down, but we will always be better than they say we are when we're up. Meanwhile, the SEC elite can do no wrong.

I keep hoping the offense gets on track and Riley has some ability to make progress teaching whatever version of Air Raid he’s running, but then I invest 30 mins watching another YouTube “expert” just blister the concepts Riley is using. It’s discouraging. You watch this film study, and you might be asking yourself what is going on?

Thank you for posting this. I just watched all of it and it doesn’t give you a lot of confidence on Saturday. Hopefully the offense will get it fixed or it will be ugly.

I watched the video but had to quit about 2/3s of the way through.
1.) The guy is a YUGE uga homer
2.) He is assuming that our coaches showed our game plan to the entire world and they haven’t already addressed a lot of these miscues
3.) uga didn’t look impressive in their Spring game either

1. Yes, it exists, but not like it used to.
2. I don’t know, and it’s a big problem. Dabo is a leader, and a visionary, but his staff are the implementers. Morris and Venables set the tone for our ascension. They provided toughness and intensity that our soft program needed. They are gone now, and I don’t see anyone like that on our staff now.
3. We will lose by at least 14.

If you think the staff has not been upgraded, you haven’t been paying attention. We are way better off staff wise than this time last year.
And the 14 point comment is just wishful thinking on your part.

If it's Cade's metal that you're questioning, Cade knows how to win games when his toughness is on the line, and he hasn't forgotten how to play the game of FB. Cade was a champion before he ever stepped a foot on the ground at Clemson.

I wonder if millionaire players are as driven to win as in the past

…for either team. Opposing teams at the Power 5 level will have millionaire players on both rosters.
Assuming comparable talent, and Clemson would seem to have comparable talent, does it come down to the team with the MOST millionaire players has LESS collective motivation to win? My initial thought says, YES, this would be true.
In the past, players were driven to high performance and motivated by the hope to make it to the NFL. Then, once in the NFL with the high salaries, a player would become complacent, less driven to win, particularly with the guaranteed money from a long term contract.
We’re still very early in the transition to millionaire college player rosters, so we need a bit more data here to see how eighteen year olds handle becoming multi-millionaires overnight while other players on their team may be making nothing in NIL pay.

Grown mature men change when they get paid real money. Can’t expect 18 and 19 year olds to be any different. Some will stop trying after they get paid.

1. Yes to all.
2. Our players, mainly, are owning that charge. They're the ones who make it happen ultimately, so their leadership is the key to success.
3. Lights out. UGA will have to earn it if it goes in their favor.

"When Dabo was a true underdog?" Does Dabo -13.5 points ring a bell?

If UGA is as good as eSPIN says the dogs will feast. If Clemson is a bad as eSPIN says there will be meat left in the bowl when the dogs pass out.
Neither team has played a game yet so no one knows who will win. That's why they play the games.
I refuse to guess Clemson will lose.
