If Manning is as good as advertised, and he's planning to be in the league in (3), I bet Ewers is gone by the 5th game. He's got a pretty spotty track record of committing already.

Committed to Texas.
De-committed.
Committed to OSU 2022.
Enrolled early and rostered 2021.
Played one game and transferred.

[I could also see some value to AM sitting a year if he is that certain he goes pro. That's one less year of hits]

Re: If Ewers is as good as advertised Arch will have to sit

Jun 23, 2022, 6:13 PM

Arch knows he needs to sit a year, so this situation works out very well. Ewers will have a pretty long leash, if only because they wouldn’t want him to walk. If Ewers is the real deal, then he’ll develop in a strong QB room.

Texas will be able to surround him with 5 stars. Ole Miss can’t really do that without getting it on probation. UGA would have been a fine fit too, but the fans would be calling for him early and there’s nowhere to go but down after last year. Athens is a heck of a fun college town, but Austin is pretty much neck in neck in that regard to me.

Re: If Ewers is as good as advertised Arch will have to sit

Jun 24, 2022, 7:48 PM [ in reply to If Ewers is as good as advertised Arch will have to sit ]

Perhaps.

Personally, I remain a bit cautious with CJ Stroud; if Ewers was that solid, he should not have had to worry... (no disrespect) Dwayne Haskins put up some crazy numbers with the 'nuts too. He beat Michigan.

I'm not crowning AM by any chance, I'm just willing to be[t] he is more of a competitor than Ewers.

[He also has equal number of playing years]

It is really dumb to attempt to trash Archie, who is in the Hall of Fame, and Eli, who was the #1 draft pick. Nothing needs to be said about Peyton with the career he had.

Who in this thread is trashing the mannings?

Reading comprehension WOULD be your friend, if you had any.

Jun 23, 2022, 5:15 PM [ in reply to Re: His grand dad and both his uncles played on some miserable ]

I was actually giving Archie, Peyton, AND Eli compliments on toughing it out with less than stellar personnel around them.

Jun 24, 2022, 7:30 AM [ in reply to Re: His grand dad and both his uncles played on some miserable ]

Peyton is the only NFL HOFer in the family.

Archie was an amazing college QB, and was stuck on some horrible teams in NO, with lousy coaches.

Eli, won 2 Soper Bowls (beating TB), but otherwise had a mediocre career

I agree with those that think Arch is willing to sit for a year, and willing to wait his turn.

Re: His grand dad and both his uncles played on some miserable

Jun 24, 2022, 9:35 AM [ in reply to His grand dad and both his uncles played on some miserable ]

Agree! But all three were great in college.
The Saints (Aint’s) were awful while Archie was there. Remember the paper bags over the head.
They fired a head coach every year or so, no OL.
Archie ran for survival, wasted the prime of his career in New Orleans.

I wish Arch the best, and U. T. Is a train wreck with a lot of ?? money ??.
I suspect he got (or will get) a great NIL deal too….. We shall see….

Great school with great traditions so good choice for Manning.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oh my!

Jun 23, 2022, 1:01 PM

Traditions don’t win championships. Traditions don’t prepare you for the NFL. Tradition don’t get you in the playoffs.

Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, all would’ve been better choices from a purely football perspective.

I would love to know how much NIL Texas oil money he’s getting.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Oh my!

Jun 23, 2022, 2:50 PM

LSU has had 2 QBs drafted in the first 3 rounds in the last 30 years, both overall #1s. They would be a horrible pick for any QB to go play for

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

well to be fair

Jun 23, 2022, 3:43 PM

that's cause it took them 70 years to get with the times and throw the ball more than 10 times a game. I still have nightmares about that Bama/LSU national championship....

LSU. Bama won NC game 21-0.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-jospehg.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What an incredibly stupid decision.

Jun 23, 2022, 12:55 PM

That family already has plenty of money, but I guess that Texas oil money talks loud and proud.

If he stays three years, maybe four, he is likely to have a new head coach.

This helps Clemson.

Texas is not going to be a threat anytime soon and it keeps him out of Alabama and Georgia, which are our biggest competitors, along with Ohio State, for top talent and on the football field!

It also helps Clemson because now we have a better chance of getting the kid out of Texas, I forget his name, that is currently ranked as the number three quarterback, some people say he’s the number one quarterback, in the class of 2024.

No it’s not

Jun 23, 2022, 2:23 PM

I have said for a year he would go to Texas. Why? Because he and SS have a very close relationship and have for many years. He is a great offensive mind and will help him grow in his craft.

He went there because of relationships - there’s another university that gets a lot of players for the same reason. Lighten up. He’ll be fine at UT.

Can't imagine the payday he's got coming.

Honestly not hating on the kid but I don't get his perfect 1.0000 on 24/7 considering his tape/stats. Arch is a perfect QB but Trevor (a true unicorn QB prospect) receives a 0.9999?
I believe he's going to disappoint somewhat. However, Vizzina is going to be the best QB in this class when all is said and done. Book it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Arch Manning makes his college decision

Jun 23, 2022, 2:30 PM

No doubt. I heard it said the other day that Ewers had 7,000 passing yards without playing his senior season. Now consider Trevor, who had just under 14,000 and tell me that Ewers is the more prolific QB.

Bollocks.

Kinda surprising - these high profile QBs seem to head toward a school with stability or are on an upward trajectory. Texas ain't done squat since 2009 except for the anomaly in 2018.

2010 5-7
2011 8-5
2012 9-4
2013 8-5
2014 6-7
2015 5-7
2016 5-7
2017 7-6
2018 10-4
2019 8-5
2020 7-3
2021 5-7

And yet I'm assuming you never batted an eye when we got 3 5* recruits in 2011 after a 6-7 season and zero ACC championships in 20 years. Or when we got the overall #1 recruit in 2008?

Your post could have been said about Clemson's recruiting success anytime prior to 2013

Re: TNET: Arch Manning makes his college decision

Jun 23, 2022, 2:27 PM

Im glad he finally made a decision. With that being said, he is grossly over-rated. I have seen him live several times, as I am from Louisiana originally and have family in the area he is from. Most people outside of Louisiana do not know that Louisiana split its private and public schools. He plays in Div III private school league. He does not play 5A Public schools (i.e. Acadiana, ASH, Barbe, etc) where there is a lot more talent. His numbers are not great against good competition (look up what Lafayette Christian said about him and they beat him 49-7). I am not saying he is a trash QB, maybe a low 4 Star, but definitely no 5 Star and the #1 player in the country. Everyone, I know from Louisiana says the same thing. Texas will find out in the end that he is over-rated.

Re: TNET: Arch Manning makes his college decision

Jun 23, 2022, 5:51 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Arch Manning makes his college decision ]

I don’t know much, but a guy on my team at work lives in LA and recently had his youngest son graduate from and play football for Newman. He played at Tulane years ago. His commentary was basically the same as yours.

Huge bump from the Manning name, but far from the highest level of competition. In games where the talent level was even he didn’t look like a 5 star and he was afraid Arch would pick a school where there would be pressure to play right away because he’s not yet what everyone is expecting. Apparently he was a bit exposed in the playoff loss you referenced.

Sounds like he’s a good young man though, so I hope he is successful, which I’m sure he will be.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Arch Manning makes his college decision

Jun 23, 2022, 6:46 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Arch Manning makes his college decision ]

I am with you. What I REALLY wanted was to get Cadelast year and we did. Yeah, different classes, but the pressure to play Arch over anyone would have been huge already, no matter how the talent level was. I looked at Arch the same way I did Simpson who went to Bama. a QB in a middling level talent conference/state. Arch is good but great? I don't know, maybe. What I DO know is that Cade played in the toughest state in the biggest division in HS football and won it all year in and year out. He's a gamer and tough. That's why I wanted him and was willing to do without Arch from my perspective. Now why Arch went to TX to play for a coach who had a lifetime .548 winning % at Washington, USC and Texas..Not exactly Purdue and SMU. But hey, if Arch IS as good as expected look for Ewers to A&M in 15 months or so.

Clemson wanted Arch, but got a really, really talented QB instead out of Alabama. There’s no reason to be a coot or an Aggy and insult my Longhorns about it. I’m pretty jacked and there’s no need, again to act like a coot.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Arch Manning makes his college decision

Jun 24, 2022, 11:14 AM

I have no doubt that Arch Manning will be a great college QB, but I am really pleased with Vizzina. When they worked out at Clemson last year, they were 2 great prospects. Manning comes from a great family, and appears to have great character, and that is true of Vizzina as well. Maybe the 2 of them will face off for the National Championship one day.
