Hiring Morris was a MUCH bigger risk than hiring Elliot/Scot

Dec 7, 2014, 10:03 PM

No one knew who Morris was and he had only 1 year of coaching in college.

Dabo knows both Elliot and Scott very well! He thought that they would be great as OC and he and Morris are the only ones to know!

Morris recommended Elliot to call plays. Morris has been very impressed with Elliot and his grasp of the offense.

All you belly achers need to calm down. Frankly, Kermit the Frog could call plays and our offense is going to be awesome no matter what.

But I believe Elliot will be an excellent play caller and will be a hot coordinator in 3 years. We're going to be clamoring for him to be HC!

Now shut up and get ready for these next two years. This is going to the some of the best football we've ever seen!

How? Morris was a nobody

Morris was certainly not a nobody. He had many years at the highest level of TX hs football prior to joining the college ranks. He called plays for twenty years at some level before coming to Clemson. Don't get me wrong I hope this works out and it can I just wished he had picked one. Having your cake and eating it too most of the time doesn't work out. I understand why it was done but it has just a little Tommy Bowden type decision feel to it.

High school???????

There are alot of great HS coaches. Running a HS program is NOTHING like running a college program. Hiring Morris at the time was a Gigantic gamble. At least Dabo knows who he hired this time around.

Dabo had a vision of what offense he wanted and CM was a perfect fit. After the debacle Kevin Steele years he had a vision for his defense and BV was a perfect fit. Dabo has been successful in building the program, recruiting to a standard and making the correct hires. I'm sure he will succeed by promoting JS and TE as well. He's had several years to think about the possibility of CM moving on so I trust his decision. IMHO CM walked into a wealth of talent to become successful...his scheme, his HUNH offense was successful. He WAS NOT a great play caller. I fault his play calling for losses to SCU over the past few years by abandonning the run. TE can not be any worse. Hopefully he can get our running game where it needs to be. Until proven wrong I remain optimistic! Go Tigers!

Yes!

Chad Morris play calling was not always great. And he never really knew how to setup plays for later in games.
His timing for trick plays was not always spot on and it felt like he called games like he was in high school sometimes.

LSU game was his best game.

Most of the SCar games were terrible.

An aggressive post Tiger ...

Yes ... T-Net had it's doubters on Morris, and I was not among them at the time. Morris' energy, his quest to learn from Yoda Malzone, his state championships in talent-rich Texas, and his one good year in Tulsa had me convinced of his potential. I hope Scott and Elliott have the same potential even though both have been more spoon fed than self-made Morris, both lack state championships in TX, and both have no prior experience as a Div. 1 OC. Hopefully, their basic training under Morris ill result in great things.

Who do you see as primary play caller next season? Do you believe either or both have the potential to develop an Offense and call plays better than Morris and Malzone? If yes, how soon? Well enough to win a nat'l chamionship in two yrs with the best QB in the U.S.? That's the window ... but I agree with you the goal's very capable with D-Wat. It's all on the coaches.
