219 - Clemson Gouges Gamechickens for 219 Yards Rushing (Nov 25, 2023)

Clemson’s relentless rushing attack and aggresive defense put a chokehold on the Chickens’ hearts that seemingly tightened throughout the game. Poor little chickens never stood a chance!

From ClemsonTigers.com:

“…The Tigers piled up 219 yards rushing, including 89 from running back Phil Mafah, 80 from running back Will Shipley, and a career-high 52 from quarterback Cade Klubnik. Klubnik also hit 15 of his 27 passing attempts for 100 yards in leading three scoring drives for the offense.

Clemson’s defense held South Carolina to 57 yards rushing, totaled six tackles for a loss, five three-and-outs, and only allowed South Carolina to convert on one of 11 third down attempts.

On the second snap of the game, Barnes recovered a lateral that bounced off a receiver’s hands and returned it 42 yards for a touchdown just 25 seconds into the game, Clemson’s fastest score against South Carolina since C.J. Spiller ran back the opening kickoff in 2009. On South Carolina’s next offensive play, Barnes made a diving interception on a deep pass by Spencer Rattler on Clemson’s 36-yard line. Barnes became the first Clemson player to record a takeaway on consecutive plays from scrimmage by an opponent since Brian Dawkins against Duke in 1995.”

Clemson: Academic Excellence! Athletic Excellence!

219 - Littlejohn Coliseum: 219 Perimeter Road

Not a player profile / game profile. This one is more of an arena profile:

Where the Tigers play: Littlejohn Coliseum
- Address: 219 Perimeter Road!
- Season: 1966–2015, 2016–present
- Capacity: 9,000

For whatever reason I cannot find Clemson’s record at Littlejohn. The closest I found was on Wikipedia, but I am not sure how dated it is:

“Clemson's home court is Littlejohn Coliseum and has been the scene of 55 Clemson wins over ranked teams (23 in the Top 10) since 1968, including a victory over #1 Duke in 1980, a 75–65 victory over #1 North Carolina in 2001, and a 74–47 victory over #3 Duke in 2009. The Clemson basketball programs have won roughly 75% of their games played in Littlejohn, making it one of the ACC's toughest road venues.”

grog slinger at any Roman Caupona could tell you, known as the Year of the Consulship of Antonius and Sacerdos. Caupona were well established in Roman Italy. They usually consisted of a lower room which acted as a bar / restaurant, and an upper room which could be anything from an inn to a brothel.

219 years ago, it was 1805. Happenings in that year:

March 4 – Thomas Jefferson is sworn in for a second term as President of the United States.

April 7 – Beethoven's Symphony No. 3, Eroica, has its public premiere at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna under his baton.

June 4 - Detroit burns to the ground; most of the city is destroyed.

September 29 – Admiral Nelson of the British Royal Navy takes command of the fleet off of the coast of Cadiz, in order to counteract the navies of France and Spain.

November 7 – The Lewis and Clark Expedition arrives at the Pacific Ocean.

November 11 – Napoleonic Wars: Battle of Dürenstein – 8,000 French troops attempt to slow the retreat of a vastly superior Russian and Austrian force. Napoleon would learn a bitter lesson about fighting Russians in the winter, when they were defending their own country. Adolph Hitler would learn the same lesson in WWII. The Russian winter was just as big an adversary as the Russian troops themselves.

Date Unknown: The Old Man of the Mountain, a natural rock formation in the U.S. state of New Hampshire, was first mentioned in 1805 by two workmen, Francis Whitcomb and Luke Brooks. When viewed from the north, a profile of a mans face appeared, jutting out of the cliff face of Cannon Mountain in Franconia, New Hampshire. The Old Man of the Mountain was called "Stone Face" by the Abenaki and was a symbol within their culture. It was also a symbol to the Mohawk people. I say "was", because, due to repeated freezings and thawings over the years, the formation developed many fissures, and despite efforts by the state to save it, eventually collapsed on May 3, 2003. It had become quite a tourist attraction, and the state was devastated by its demise. Today, you can still go to that area, and look through view finders that show a "before and after" view of the feature as it used to exist.

Guess Mr. O.J. decided to move the post clock up early.

South Carolina Highway 219 is a 9 mile long state highway that runs from SC 34 in Newberry to U.S. Route 176 north of Pomaria.

13 miles east of the Hwy 133/Hwy 11 intersection is Table Rock State Park. The Cherokee Indian tribes that roamed the area long ago believed that when God feasted, the big stone ledge was his table. The park has two lakes for swimming, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and paddle boating. There is a playground, picnic shelters, and hiking trails including a strenuous hike to the top of Pinnacle Mountain, the highest mountain in the state. There are reasonable admisssion fees for the park.
