Starting Cole Stoudt vs. Ga State doesn't make sense...
Nov 19, 2014, 1:08 PM

from a program development standpoint. Nick Schuessler will go into next season as our backup QB. If anything were to happen to Deshaun Watson, he would be running our offense. Nick has not seen a whole lot of live action, so he needs as much playing time as we can get him in these last two games. This Ga State game would be the perfect time for the coaching staff to evaluate him, and get him the much needed playing time he needs.
So, I guess my question is this... How does it benefit the program to start Cole Stoudt instead of Nick Schuessler against Ga State?

He's the senior. Give him that, he deserves it.

Whether or not he plays the rest of the game is another matter.

I agree. He deserves it. Hopefully, we get him some confidence (and healing time) and play our backup QB most the game so that he gets experience for this and next year. Also, hopefully Watson can play against USC. The mmore QBs available the better.

What makes you think Nick will be 2nd team next year?
Nov 19, 2014, 1:11 PM

If he can't beat out Stoudt, he's not beating out Bryant or Israel, especially if they are midyear folks. Face it, we are going to have a So backed up by a true Fr next year.

I think Tucker is the only Freshman QB enrolling early...

So it will take time to get Kelly Bryant up to speed. There is a chance the Tucker could beat Nick out of the backup spot, but given the history of our program it may take him until mid-season to do so. That is my basis for Nick being the backup going into next season.

DW took the starting job from a guy who'd been in the system four years, three games in the system and you don't think the kid who holds all Florida's state records can beat a walkon out of second place?
Gatdam, obstinance to the point of brain death!

Look how long it took the coaches to start DW.

Also, don't you for one second think that either of these kids are of DW's caliber. DW was the #1 dual threat QB in the NATION.

It took a true Fr 4 games to be starter

and 2 of the first 3 were on the road in the most hostile venues we would play in. Doesn't seem like it too Dabo long to go with talent over experience.
A better example is A. Scott. There is no reason that it took Dabo this long to get him more touches than Humphries.

True, but if DW is hurt in the 1st or 2nd game...

Schuessler is likely going to be the backup. That was my point.

Just a guess since I am not running a college football program but I would think the seniors on this team would want the best player out there playing right now, not for next year. Now I am not making the argument that Cole is better than Nick but that is what the coaches are saying. Nick will have a hard enough time being the backup next year with two good freshman coming in so why worry about getting a career backup quarterback at best some reps in live time over trying to keep this team together and saying whoever gives us the best chance to win today and next week the majority of snaps so he can improve and maybe help his confidence, which has to be at a all time low.

I think you start Cole and give him three series...if he does not look sharp,, pull him and whish him the best. Like Chuck Knoll said " get on with your life's work".

Nick will be 3 on the depth chart next year

Bryant and Isreal will both be here in January, one will most likely win the backup job and the most likely will RS the other. If they don't RS either of them, Nick will be 4th on the depth chart.

Yes, a lot of pressure, just like DW had when he arrived here. We will be fine for the foreseeable future.

Because we have one more game to play and it is against the chickens. We need to play the games now and then we can play the games next year. Both QBs coming in are early entrants so they will be just like DW was this year. We will be fine, IMHO.

Kelly Bryant is ranked #8 and Tucker Israel isn't ranked on rivals. My point... These kids aren't of the same caliber as Deshaun Watson.
