Anyone see Hubert press conference after the loss last night?

It was around 10 minutes but there was only about 7 minutes of talking. He would have several really long pauses where he would think about the question or additional points he would then state. It was just very odd. I suspect they will let him get his CEO and coach another year but he isnt looking like the man with a plan. He seems lost

(and a few missed NIT invitations) to get your own players in there.

Seriously, better late than never for Brownell. Finally, FINALLY he seems to be building something at Clemson. It's about time. The ACC is a faint shadow of its former self, so our position near the top of the ACC doesn't mean anywhere near what it would have meant in the past. Nonetheless, we've been able to distinguish ourselves and make an impressive showing where it counts - the NCAA tournament. Next step - make that a regular occurrence. Keep recruiting and/or portaling the level of talent needed to compete with the top programs.

When I was in school the ACC was the elite conference in basketball, and we beat a very good, highly-ranked Duke team to win the regular season ACC crown. It would be awesome to get back there again.

And even then, we had beaten Duke and UNC in back-to-back games, then dropped the last game of the ACC regular season to Ga Tech. Had Duke not ALSO lost their last game of the season to UNC the next day, we'd have come in second. P.S. We also lost the last regular season game to SCAR.

But that would have been a Bobby Cremins GT team, correct? Not a scrub sub-.500 team. Just guessing on that.

Losses are going to happen in basketball. Quality programs do not make a habit of losing to scrubs. If we had beaten GT a week ago we'd probably be headed for a top-10 ranking and a higher seeding in the dance. Just say no to scrubs!!!!!!!

I have seen way too many elite UNC teams stomp us over the years, complete with arrogant coaches, players, and fans.

Seeing them struggle, to the tune of us killing them by 20 points, is one of the best basketball moments I can remember.

Yeah.

I think it’s a classic case of roster mismanagement

They have some great pieces that would flourish on other teams but they don’t compliment each other

They have a bunch of super fast guys off the dribble. If you get in a transition game with them it’s going to be a long night.

But they don’t have any size at all. Even their tall guys are really weak.

Their “bigs” are all of the Reeves and Wiggins mode. Very gifted athletically but aren’t strong or aggressive enough to do the dirty work under the basket.

Also, what shocked me is their poor defense. Watching Duke and UNC play was night and day. Duke didn’t let us sniff an open 3.

UNC had the perimeter speed to play good 3 point D, but they just don’t play with good effort. Very lazy and sloppy on D. There is a reason we shot 50% from three, and it’s because they just left us wide open. Lakhin dominating down low helped because we really forced them to pick their poison

The post was referring to the post game interview being painful. If you loved that you are an even sadder person that I previously thought. You said in another post that Hubert seems like a nice guy. If you had a shred of decency, you wouldn’t say you love seeing any decent guy having to struggle through an interview that way. I definitely enjoyed every minute of the game but just can’t derive any joy from watching anyone, especially someone I think is a nice guy, struggle the way it sounds like he did during the interview.

RJ Davis is incredible, and his talent alone should have won them more games. They also have two guys who are likely to be first round draft picks in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Hubert seems like a nice guy, but he’s not getting the job done.

Yeah during the broadcast they showed their guys that were projected to be first rounders and I thought how aren't you having a good season with multiple first round guys. I guess their depth isn't good as well as team chemistry. David has really only had the one great year I believe.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

His UNC teams have won 20 or more games every year he's been at the helm.

They finished 29-10 (15-5) in his first year (2021-22), tied for second in the ACC, and lost by 3 to Kansas in the NCAA Tournament Championship game.

They finished 20-13 (11-9) in year two under Hubert and declined an NIT invitation.

In year three (23-24), the team finished 29-8 (17-3), first in the league standings, and lost to NC State in the ACCT championship game. The team lost by 2 to Alabama in the Sweet 16.

UNC is currently sitting at 14-11 overall and 7-6 in league standings. With just seven games to play, it's unlikely he'll have another 20+ win season this year.

Just watched it. I think he’s done. Not sure why he continues to start Cadeau. He should start Jackson and Powell and let RJ run the point.

That being said, he has too much talent on the team to be in this situation and we know they have plenty of NIL to throw around. He was hired as an assistant to succeed Roy with zero coaching experience. A DEI hire, plain and simple. UNC gets what they deserve.

I can’t stand DEI but I don’t agree that Hubert was a DEI hire. Most alums, including me, were excited to see him hired. He’s an alum, had a long NBA career, sat beside Roy for a decade, and is truly one of the finest men on planet earth. Also, he loves the university like no other. But he’s not getting g the job done. I know no other fan base feels bad for UNC but many feel bad for Hubert the man. Heck, even dookies speak highly of him! lol.

OK, I'm good with that, but were their others within the "Carolina Family" that were more deserving? Guess we may find out.

Not as family oriented as it used to be under Dean.

I think the only reasonable “family” choices was Hubert and Wes Miller at Cincy. Wes is a lot younger and Hubert was Roy’s top assistant for a decade. If they were determined to stay with the alum base Hubert seemed to be the best and most experienced choice.
Everyone knows he has poor roster balance but the way they play and effort is a problem. I saw a stat this morning that said this is statistically the worst defensive team in the 115 year history of UNC basketball. That will get you fired because that’s more than just lack of talent. That speaks to effort!

the decision was met with some sharp criticism since Davis had never been a head coach at any level. That said, he did work as a assistant coach for Roy Williams from 2013 until he was named the head coach in 2021 following Roy Williams retirement.

Hubert seems like a good guy, based on his playing time there it looks like he was gone just before Dean started the fake classes. Growing up in southeast NC a large majority around here were unc fans and always spouted the carolina way. I feel no sympathy with the cheaters losing and wish they would lose every game no matter the sport.
