where you could go "rogue" or off the play call and make a play?
But unfortunately, you can't do that in D1, big boy football. You just can't. Is Cade immature? Does he think he can be the "hero" like he was in HS and make a play to save the game? Riley really needs to lean in on him a little bit---he's got some growing up to do.
While I'm ranting, I think Goodwin called the WORST game of his career against Miami. He should have blitzed the heck out of that freshman QB. Venables would have had that guy's head spinning. Just inexcusable that Goodwin allowed the QB to stand in the pocket with little/no pressure all night long. Oh, and rushing 3 on the 3rd and 13 in the 4th quarter???? It's mind boggling to me. Apparently he learned nothing being Venables' understudy.
Rant over.

In High School baseball I missed a bunt sign, a bunt is where you

hold the bat in the hitting zone and catch the baseball and the ball trickles onto the field and allows base runners to advance when done correctly.
You rarely see this play in MLB anymore, elusive indeed so I felt an explanation was in order.
Back to story, I went rogue and played hero ball when my coach put a bunt sign down and I connected on one of my 2 career home runs in high school. The cool part is it was off of Steve Gold, and all conference player who played college ball and I believe in the minors for awhile.
Anyway I was rounding the bases and instead of a high 5 going round 3rd base he glared at me and had me on the bench the next inning.
I felt it was deserved, and moved on.
If Cade went on his own the last play, you have got to show that it matters when a coach calls a play. We may have lost the game anyway, but he chose to go against coaches and do it on his own. There is not a single I in team, sit his tail down. He will live, get over it, move on, and if he does not then send his tail packing because team sports do not allow for that.

I did that one time at West Canaan High and Coach Kilmer wasn’t too happy.

Coach Clark was a good man, but a scary coach when he was not happy. God rest his soul.

Ridgeland,
I agree with you totally on the hero play stuff.
However, oftentimes on 3rd and long a defense will rush three and drop 8 to force the QB to throw underneath - and get tackled short of the 1st down. It did not work in that particular instance but it most often does.

The hand off was sending Shipley into the middle of the pack and would have been stuffed at the line just like the previous 3 plays. The entire left side of the field was wide open and Cade thought he could easily score, but they closed in on him too fast. It was a split second decision, and if he scores, he is praised for being attentive and seeing that opportunity. I dont think he was trying to be a hero, he was just trying to get to 3OT.
