SEC possibly expanding again

But doesn't look like they are interested in Clemson or FSU. As I said a while back, North Carolina is who they really want. Looks like UNC will be the first to bolt. Clemson's best bet may be the Big 12 since the SEC doesn't want Clemson (because they always have the coots) and the Big Ten requires that AAU status.

So Florida state and Clemson paved the way for North Carolina.

But UNC and Clemson should be Option 2 ... unless Miami beats us out geographically. I do not see FSU as SEC-bound right now based on bad blood.

Was it the fake degrees that sealed the deal for the SEC?

the kids growing up now write him off and their dads mostly never saw him play. Double digit decline this year, resale value on Jordan’s dropping- only going to get worse. Of course if another 60 year old dude is making the decision then they might overpay/think it’s worth more than reality. Not sure what the SEC would gain by UNC being associated with that at this point. 20 years ago - sure thing.

continue to decline because it's based on a guy who gets further and futher away from his playing years every year. The NBA has had another generation of stars since he played and those guys are about to retire - Lebron, Steph, KD etc. Most kids today have no clue who Wilt, Kareem, Magic, etc. were. Same thing- brands built on individual stars all begin to fade over time and it's starting to happen to the Jordan brand - can't reverse time.

Seems crazy to say it but UNC is actually the most attractive ACC brand to outsiders. Even though they've never really even cared about football and had their greatest basketball runs occurred when their players were attending fake classes, everyone seems to want them more than Clemson or anyone else.

UNC makes bank on basketball to the tune of around $19 million profit. That’s about exactly the same as we profited in football. Add in football and all other sports and UNC is more profitable overall. Sad stats.

You have no traditional matchups or rivalries with anyone in that conference. Is the money truly better long term compared to the ACC? That can impact our ability to recruit in those areas. I thought the only financial improvement for Clemson was if they go to $EC or B1G.

People still spreading these misconceptions that expansion is about television markets & that is why a UNC would be favored because they don’t currently have a footprint in NC. It no longer works that way & none of that matters. With streaming being so prevalent television markets don’t matter. It’s about total number of viewers & eyes on games not what market it is generated from. Currently no teams not already in the SEC or Big10 have more people watching their games on a weekly basis than Notre Dame, Clemson & FSU . And it’s not even close. I am not sure UNC is even in the top ten. Clemson viewership is in the millions where UNC struggles for a half a million viewers weekly. People need to stop looking at expansion & reasons for expansion the same way they did 10 years ago. It’s a whole new ballgame & television markets don’t matter like they once did. The emphasis is on total viewership & they don’t care which market they are coming from. Clemson will always be more attractive based on football & football alone. And, I still believe it’s all about football, no matter anybody else says.

it would seem that UNC joining the sec would wind up being another Vanderbilt or a door mat sec team in Football. After some time this would probably drive down the viewership for them and less money coming in. As far as being a basketball school I don't believe they will be what they once were as guys jump early to the NBA now.

Maybe the sec is looking for fodder teams and not one's that would challenge the old hierarchy of the consistent winners.

Who knows. But when you draw the circle completed it will always lead back to money somehow.

As far as Clemson is concerned,

I think all the current conferences are dinosaurs. The only thing that will matter in the future is your team getting into the super conference that will be composed of elite teams/programs across the country. So even if Clemson is exiled to playing teams in the Midwest it will only be transitory before we are back playing traditional rivals from the Southeast in the super conference.

I hope it’s the SEC but I personally think it’s with the Big10…..

We didn’t step out with the court challenge without knowing we had a deal coming. It settled the amount and the timing.

UNC fans for football aren’t much despite the smart move of getting Bill B.

Don’t believe UNC has better fan base than Clemson or more resources after the Covid virus originated at UNC comes to full knowledge.

Clemson is a very strong brand, the strongest by far in the ACC, Miami market area is bigger but nobody there watches them or cares much about the canes.

The media shows sellouts of their tickets but nobody is there for the game😂🤣

Moving the Orange Bowl made it worse.

FSU will find a landing spot somewhere too.
