Recalling our lost games where we "snatched a loss out of the jaws of victory"

Had Florida State at Clemson and we were winning and gaining momentum when deep in their territory - Florida State called the famous punteruski ... the play worked and set them up for a first and goal inside Clemson's five yard line and they won. Big Mo changed zip codes on that play. One of the greatest games I have ever witnessed other than the fact that we were on the losers-end of a hard fought game. Both teams were top ten ranked.
What games do you remember where we lost but should have won.

That one stayed with me for a long time. There were probably six or seven plays in the last few minutes that had things gone our way then we win….but every one of those plays worked out in Tech’s favor.

Agree. Nothing comes close as far as a giveaway game.

At least with the OPs example - it was one of the best fakes in college history.
The GT loss - that’s just …gross.

I woke up several times that night thinking, "I can't believe we lost." I don't think any game every kept me awake like that one.

Have to be leading by more than 10 with less than three minutes on the clock, before I "relax" and feel comfortable that win are going to win. All because of this game.

I had the misfortune of seeing that one in person. That was a long car ride home for sure.

where he marched them down the field. Over and over. I pieced that together after remembering where I was sitting and who I was with. I was a student on the hill when godsey killed us b/c i remember watching their WR's get open play after play and watching our DB's routinely lagging behind. And against Calvin johnson i was in on the 35 yard line in the stands knowing Calvin was getting that last ball and just hoping the pass would be off.I remember yelling like a crazy person after that dumb punt and that last pass play while being with my then new girlfriend who ended up eventually being my wife.. didn't scare her away i guess. she had fair warning.

I think GT threw that same pass about 14 times for a TD...

Calvin just scored again on that same fade. That was a TERRIBLE night! Long angry drive home. Visions of 21 were hard to get out of my head. And the punt. Or lack thereof.

kicked the dog, had to run around the block, etc...worst one I've seen.
We had just brought home our infant daughter from the hospital. That was the game that taught me I may be a little too emotional over football.
Go Tigers!

Was that the game we led by 10 points with about 2 minutes to go, and lost in regulation? I still think about that game.

Had the lead on them last year and were deep in their territory

then boom, the blind side hit, fumble, scoop and score. They won in OT.
In 2014, we were deep in FSU's territory about to score and fumbled the pitch out inside the 10. They won in OT.
In 1992, we had the lead on FSU and were driving in their territory in the 4th quarter and fumbled with a scoop and score. They won 24-20. It hadn't been long since defenses were allowed to advance a fumble.
Seems about every decade we give one to FSU.

Let's hope last year was the only 1 for this decade! That one hurt last year. I left so angry. Especially watching the fsu fans celebrate with their "f### around and find out T-shirts", trashy...stomach churning.

Yep. I lost a lot of respect for Jordan Travis after those shirts. It only took him how many times to finally beat us and I honestly think we were the better team that day...

Antonio Williams’s fumble against the coots. There were a lot of things during that game that, even if just one changed in favor of Clemson, we could’ve won. But the fumble sealed the deal. All we had to do was get the ball 20 yards down field and BT would’ve had an opportunity to win the game.

Verse GT in 2004 was the example that popped in my head.

Simply had to run out the clock with:23 seconds... bad clock management and penalties made us have to punt.
Cole Chason not only drops the bounced punt snap but lets it roll to the 10 yard line.
Justin Miller had shut down Calvin Johnson the entire game in man to man, but Megatron somehow outjumped Miller in the corner to win the game.
Sickening.

I think it was 2008 vs Maryland, but someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

It wasn't a heartbreaker so much as...as I recall...one of the most frustratingly inept second halves of football I've ever watched in Death Valley. It was like we were playing in molasses. Every play was this lethargic, uninspired nothing. And Maryland steadily crept back for the win. One of the least inspired home conference game performances I can remember.

The Notre Dame game with DJ playing(2020 maybe) was a bad loss too, after ETN gave us the lead they scored a TD aided by a terrible PI call on a ball that was headed out of bounds. Some really shady play and calls late that were very undisciplined and not Clemson-like.
Honestly from 2015-2020 the only team that could even play at the level of Clemson was Alabama(LSU as well with Burrow which was a great team as well and beat our Tigers). Making it to 4 out of 5 national championship games, winning 2 was a lot of fun and man did our team play with some serious confidence. I guess when your QB's are named Watson and Lawrence that confidence just permeates everything around it

had a 28-14 lead. Dale Gilbert even gave the PA jinx with the "go celebrate the big win" with the Bojangles 28 point promotion ad.

The one that bothers me is the 2006 Clemson-SCar game ...

We were leading 28-14 in the third. SCar scored 17 unanswered points. Merriweather was moving down the field. We were within the 5-yard line, if I am not mistaken. Bowden pulls Merriweather and puts in CJ. No score. Not long after that, we go for a 39-yard tying FG. Jad Dean - wide left. We lose at home. 😔
Similar to the DJU fiasco in 2022. We never should have lost that game, either.
Otherwise, the 2004 Clemson-GT game was a very bad one as well.

2016 against Pitt. Up by 8 points and the ball first and goal around the 2 yard line and throw a interception. Pitt scores a few plays later and gets the 2 point conversion to tie it up. Clemson goes on to lose.
