Agreed... In rivalry games, particularly where one team can play spoiler and treats it like their SuperBowl, the stats on paper kind of go out the window a bit.

I love Tajh Boyd. He had a tremendous impact on elevating this program. But he also played uptight in big games and made some stupid mistakes. That and talent differences handed USuC the 5-game win streak. Fast forward to now. A tremendous gap in talent and a cool-as-the-other-side-of-the-pillow QB who's as talented as any we've ever had, coupled with NFL-caliber talent all over the field. No way the rivalry card gets played here.
I remember 1981 and all of the Coot fans with signs that read, "Today #1 in the nation, tomorrow #2 in the state." I tromped all over those signs that were littering the pavement on my way out of The Roach that night.

Not trying to make this a thread about Tajh but he didn't have an o-line worth a crap his entire 4 years starting here. I mean a poor o-line can make even the best QB's look pedestrian. To think he left as arguably the best QB in Clemson history under those circumstances is really nothing short of a miracle.

I also KNOW we could lose that game. Rivalry game can be screwy sometimes, and if we play sloppy and yall play above your head that game could be a head-scratcher for us.

They've got some guys who can play.
I think they're a better team now than they were a couple of weeks ago. We'll find out in the next few weeks how much better.
Right now, I would say Clemson by 17 or so.

than they were a couple of weeks ago? South Carolina hasn't played in a couple of weeks and the last time they did, they narrowly beat a terrible Vandy team scoring only one TD in the process.

USuck will have played Texas A&M, UT, UF and a good Citadel team before seeing us. The outcome of these games will go far in answering what kind of effort we see from them. I live in NE Cola and their fans have been almost silent this entire season! If USC loses these games except for Citadel we will be playing a team with nothing to lose! If Elliott isn't returning then this game will have an added incentive for their team as well. While FSU is undoubtedly critical, we cannot take USCe for granted!

They're a BAD football team. We'd have to have an implosion of historical proportions for that game to even be close. If I'm worried about one game it's FSU hands down. They haven't looked overly impressive this year but they have the horses to make it a game.

Historically the favorite wins the game regardless of rivalry status. I always chuckle when folks say throw out the record books for a rivalry game as they have no factual basis for their statement

is thinking about that 2007 West Virginia massive choke vs Pitt.
All they had to do was beat lousy 3-7 Pitt team and they were in the national title game. They were blowing away teams by 20 plus points every game. And against Pitt they fell 13-9 in a terribly played game

worried about. FSU always plays out of their minds against us....we will need our "A" game to win.
SCAR may come out with plenty of emotion, but they don't have the horses to run with us. It's amazing how far they've fallen talent-wise....I honestly didn't see them falling that fast as basically none of their recruits have been hits.

Since we keep getting up early and holding the lead, if we score first, the pressure builds and the doubts creep for the opposing team....no one wants to be blown out. It is the same mental edge that all great teams get...your reputation gives you points as the other team doesn't play at their best worried about losing (and losing big).

While I think we will be ok, I have to say I agree with him. I believe we are 40+ points better than the coots, but it is a rivalry game, and ALL of the pressure will be on the Tigers.

anyone who saw that game knows that anything can happen, and sometimes does.
Emotion and talent can carry you a long way, even if execution, experience, and scheme are lacking.

I agree. And I disagree with the assertion Herbstreit is biased against us. If you who are so butt hurt about ESPN would step back for a second you might realize this is one hell of an insult towards everyone else left on our schedule...especially FSU.

Can say he called it plus, it's a plug for SEC. At some point during the week of a rivalry he says both teams could win.
Guess what, the people that won says he called it and the people that lose think he called it..
Truth be told, he's good at what he does, even had his kid pick GT when he didn't. ESPN has been waiting on us to lose all year. They didn't say much if anything about the other unbeaten top teams(except fsu) but if we lose they will bring the term another 4 years.
They(ESPN, ND homers, media) can't handle the ACC's best being and looking better than every team in the country.
The only team that looks close without the depth is Baylor but if you look how massive our guys are compared to them if we play mistake free football nobody in the country matches up with us and we are the youngest team in the top 25(tcu is close).
This team has grown but could lose any game but the chances are we beat everybody through the ACC championship.
When we we play FSU we will be playing the second most talented team we have played all year. They have talent but we have more finally! I'm sure we will win this Death Valley game.
When your in the ACC, they don't give you great rankings to start with. If FSU was in the SEC and had a huge run like they have had they would have started in the top 4 and would not have moved until the loss to GT.
It's going to feel like we beat the media, ESPN & Billions of $ and every homer that predicted us to lose! This will be the best ever win!
