DC...did CU go deep enough when Wes was hired?

It's oblivious to many of us on this bored that the search for a new DC MUST go deeper this time around. Dabo hired from within after BV departed...but many of us don't think he went "within" enough.

There's a highly accomplished, by his own admission, JV coach who posts frequently on the Tnet that could be the diamond in the rough that CU is searching for. He understands that tackling, holding opponents to less points than we score, and only having 11 men on the field at a time are the keys to any successful defense.

Perhaps Dabo could lure him away?

And do you mean "obvious" instead of "oblivious"?

Dabo ill-advisedly handed the keys to the defensive kingdom (a defense that was consistently ranked in the the top 5 to 10 nationally), to someone with no prior DC experience as opposed to conducting a national search and hiring the absolute best possible candidate available.

No. Dabo has basically been pressing the "EASY" button for the last several years. Wes was another hire in a long line of "easy" decisions. Sorry Dabo, we're not paying you $11 million a year for you take the easy route. Figure out how to get the best coaches here instead of the ones sitting across the hall already. Figure out how to make NIl and the portal work without destroying the culture. For $11 million a year and our ever increasing IPTAY fees (with crappier parking) we expect to you to figure it ALL out. Now, FINALLY after getting passed by team we used to beat regularly and after not being in the hunt for a NC for the last 5 years, Dabo is finally choosing the hard path and using the portal and reportedly looking at DC that has ZERO previous connections to Clemson. Time will tell if it is all too little, too late.

She's a Dabo buttsmoocher so that wouldn't work.***

I am not sure about what the criteria was but I recently saw a post about Dabo's mindset in making hiring decisions was " hiring hungry ". After having served over 35 years in the military, federal law enforcement, attended numerous leardship courses and served in leadership positions I have never heard of this " hiring hungry " concept. In the past few days of talking with my former colleagues and trying to explain this concept, they looked at me like a fool. Some even went so far to relate it to hiring a blind man to go in a dark room and look for a black cat that isn't there. I commend Dabo for wanting to look within to provide upward mobility opportunities for his staff but I never understood this hire. The narrative was that Wes had some divine ability to be a DC despite never playing the game. Additionally you overlook other defensive staff who had more credentials that warranted an opportunity to be DC. Then you expect these more qualified coaches to make up for Wes's shortcomings. How could anyone in their right mind expect this to work. If the other coaches speak up, it undermines Wes. That was not fair to him and put him in a position he was destined to fail at. I've always operated that choosing for a position you start by looking at KSA's.(knowledge, skills and ability). Then look at other interpersonal skills (leardship abilities, presence, ability to relate to people). Not saying Wes is a bad person but this decision was horrible, destined to fail and #### near idiotic. The blame lies at Dabo's feet and the AD for allowing such a goofy experiment to exist at a football program like Clemson. Hopefully a better decision will be made this time. Through mistakes we learn to gather wisdom. This time get a proven commodity. GO TIGERS.
