Notre dame qb flipped to auburn. They were in need and surveyed a few options. From what I understand ,Hebert wasn't in their first tier, but they struck out.
They came after Hebert because he has two teammates committed there and played with a LB already there. Then They offered him about 5 times more than we offered... boom

We have two commitments in 2026. Brock Bradley and Tait Reynolds. Both 3* rated as we no longer get the 5* types without the upfront NIL payments.

The class is good from a quality prospective, but we short on numbers. Still some irons in the fire to see how those work out, and maybe we do use some spare ships for the portal and depth this offseason.

Wasn't this guy's film a little unimpressive considering the level of competition? Not sure the BB heads would be my first choice if i was looking for a program to develop me as a qb.
I feel it is a bit of a slap in the face to Clemson though. They have stayed committed to this kid for a while but alas money talks in this new era of semi professional football (formerly known as college football).

To me that means:
1. money
2. he knows CK is coming back and will probably have 2 years behind Vizzina, which in turn with CK coming back, 2025 is not as critical for a QB until 2026.
3. 2024 passing stats - 57% completions, 5 TDs and 4 INTs ** and he's not playing against 6A Texas teams either. This may have opened the door to make it all mutual.
** those stats were for "a" Blake Hebert but there is also one on Connecticut. The stat sheet I read didn't say which one.

Was never a huge fan. He had potential but in camps, his accuracy was not good. As others have said, his competition in high school has been poor up to this point. He also, if I recall correctly, missed most of his junior season. He was a longer range semi project at
best.
I said this in another thread, I am worried about this 2025 class. I also didn’t like the strategy of taking only this kid and promising him that we would not recruit another quarterback. Maybe you do that with a Watson or Lawrence…… not this type of prospect. And now it has backfired on us.
However, though, frankly, the more I think about it, the more I see this as an opportunity to upgrade. The continual development of Vizz Has been a pleasant surprise to me this season. This makes me feel somewhat better about our depth.

That also allows us time to recruit some others along the way and just possibly pull in a portal guy if we had to. Suspect you will see a couple of grad transfers to have as backups.
And who knows, maybe Cade’s success this year is starting to undo some of the negative recruiting that assuredly has been happening with the DJ years and Cade Yr1 and we can find a higher rated guy.

He always seemed like a desperation signing to me. All the guys we went after went elsewhere and we apparently want a QB no matter what in every class. I'd guess ND came along and offered to start paying him now instead of waiting for him to arrive on campus. I'm sure he didn't just wake up this morning and decide to go there after a year of being committed. He had to have known he'd sit on the bench for the first couple years here and ND also probably also sold him on immediate playing time although we all know that's BS and that they'll portal over him first chance they get .

Got a feeling word has gotten out that Cade is not on the same 3 year plan his predecessors were and is planning to return next year. Then we have CV who redshirted last year and will have 2 years of eligibility after Cade leaves. This is the same situation we were in at RB a couple of years ago when Shipley and Mafah still had multiple years of eligibility. Let the unnecessary hand-wringing begin.

This kid is not a better player than ND’s 23, 24 or 26 QBs. If it was a development thing or a quicker path to see the field, then Clemson is the clear choice.
And I don’t think ND is wasting big money on the 27th best QB when they were this close to not replacing Deuce Knight like 72 hours ago.

I didn't read all of the replies, but I hope nobody is jumping on this kid or denigrating his character just because he is not going to become a Tiger.
We live in a capitalistic society in which plenty of adults make decisions based on money - and being able to better provide for their families. Let's not fall into the trap of hating on someone just because they are not a member of our "tribe"
