Paul Johnson on Clemson: We can play with them
Paul Johnson and his Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets welcome fifth-ranked Clemson to Atlanta for a Thursday night ESPN matchup, and the Jackets are off to a 3-0 start this season after winning only three games year ago. The quick start means Johnson is back to being his usual confident self. Photo by Jason Getz / USATODAY Full Story » |

Going to the game tomorrow night - first time I will get to see the Tigers play on the road.
I hope they'll make it 4-0 and keep it rollin'!

I have to say that the GT fan base is one of the worst. Right up there with UGa and SCAR IMO. (They were cheering when DW4 was being carted off 2 years ago.) I'll be there tomorrow night but unless we open up a can early and send them packing by the 3rd Qtr, better be ready for a whole lot of yapping and unsportsmanlike behavior from the nerds.

I said they were CHEERING when DW4 was carted off. We lost that game because Cole Stoudt tossed a couple of pick-6's and scored more points for GT than their own offense did.

Oh my bad lol, but I didn't know that. I can promise you if they were that's not the majority of GT fans. Most sit until the player gets up, and then they said and clap. If they were cheering that's super trashy and uncalled for.

Playing with us and being competitive are 2 totally different things. Anybody can step on the field and play. Very few can actually win.

I'm surely not looking for GT to win, but they are very capable of winning. And playing in Atlanta they can have a painful sting. We have a lot of young guys on defense, but that shouldn't make a lot of a difference if they stay true to what BV has taught them. And that is to play "assignment Football"!!! Go Tigers for win #4!!!!

Doubtful that this will turn out like last year's Miami game, but I do expect a Tiger victory. Something along the order of 31-17, IMO. Tech has played well against BC (big deal), Mercer (big deal) and Vanderbilt (big deal). Me thinks Clemson is far better than all three of those teams combined.

Clemson has played and barely beat auburn(big deal) and Troy(big deal) they also beat South Carolina state(big deal). I believe GT is better than all those teams combined lol.

True enough. However, Clemson has much more talent on both sides of the ball than GT. If Watson stays healthy, your team will go down.

You don't have Auburn's speed on defense.

And no one you've played compares to Auburn's defense.
I went to the game in Auburn. Their defense is strong and fast. Their offense, though, is putrid.

If you're thinking about going to the game

Be aware that this game is not a sell-out and tickets can be purchased online from GT at face value. There are still good (decent) lower deck seats available. Alternatively, if you use a 3rd party reseller like Stubhub, you will pay 200% over face value, plus their fee.
If you live in the area, you could take MARTA to North Ave. and walk past the Varsity for some pre-game deliciousness.

Tickets are still available from Boston College for the Oct. 7 game. Good seats, too.

...bought tix through iptay and have wonderful nosebleed seats in the upper corner of the end zone (Section 217 Row 28)... when checking to see just where we were sitting earlier this week, saw just what you're talking about! For the same price, I could be sitting "between the 20's" (upper decks) or for a handful of dollars more, in the lower decks. Live and learn, I s'pose?!
Still, we WILL be at the game and I am optimistic I will leave a LOT happier than I did the last time I was at Bobby Dodd in 2011... since those were GREAT seats that game, maybe the crappy seats will be the difference maker this time? Actually, I'm counting on this Tiger team being far more capable of sealing the deal ON THE FIELD!
GO TIGERS!!!

We've been recruiting in the top 5 or 10 the last few years and GT is usually down around 50 in recruiting rankings. Short of an injury to Watson or Ron Cherry calling phantom penalties, GT can't play with us. The Tigers win going away.

I have a feeling the tigers have woke up from their hibernation of the first two games and we will see a different team the rest of the year. Little jabs like "We can play with them" or "Their offense is off so far this year" will only make the tigers that more hungry to make him eat those words. Think we exterminate those yellow jackets thursday night - 48-21...
GO TIGERS!!!!!

Let's get over it...

So tired of this GT narrative. We are an elite program now. GA Tech is not. I hope we put a 50 point beat down on these guys so OUR fans can stop obsessing over this game every year. Cole Stout will not be throwing touchdown passes to them Thursday night.

We need to actually do it.
I don't think this game will be the blowout many do, also don't think we'll ever be worried about losing it either.

I always felt like the game would have been much closer last year if the offense never came on the field after Watson went down. Stoudt did throw a number of Georgia Tech touchdowns.

is the TOP game they play. We can't be slow off the start because they just run that #### clock so much. I don't think this D will be doing a lot of 3 and outs for them, so every possession we have it will be very important to come away with points.
I'll be ecstatic to be wrong about this, but....
Go Tigers!

Venables knows how to stop GT - clog up dive play - big Dexter's job. String out QB and take him on every run play - DE's job. Take pitch man wide - LBs and SS job. Cover wide outs - DBs job. - trust your teammate to do his job. Don't do it for him. It's that easy. Kevin Steele didn't get it. Venables does. Has shut them down 3 years in a row. Thurs night will be 4. And speaking of 4, he should have a big night vs brand new GT secondary. Tigers 35,Tech 17.
