I don't think anyone has talked about the short kick-off by SMU's kicker. What if he had kicked it out of the end zone? Do we win in that last 16 seconds?

Randall's return was marked down at the 45 yard line with 9 seconds remaining.

A touchback would have given the ball to Clemson at the 25 yard line with 16 seconds remaining.

Our 16 yard pass to AW took 6 seconds.

Prior to that we would have needed to complete a 20 yard pass that took 7 seconds to have gotten ourselves into the exact same situation for the final 2 plays.

While it's less likely to complete consecutive passes of 15-20 yards to set up the game winning 56 yard FG, it would not have been impossible.

string kicker kicked off their last kick. The stat sheet shows that Gabriel Lozano had one kickoff and Collin Rogers had 5.

It didn’t happen. Playing What-If is irrelevant? What if we had Sammy Brown playing spy on LaNorris Sellars? They don’t score and we don’t give away a game we controlled. What if I were 6’6”, I’d play in the NBA instead of getting cut from my high school team. Doesn’t help.

Short kick definitely cost SMU. It cost Clemson against Alabama during the championship game when they ran it back. Having a kicker that can kick it deep is important.
