I tell their story to tell this one as today marks the 50th anniversary mourning of the loss of the Edmund Fitzerald.

Absolutely, it's just a shame softball stole ~$16mil & 100s of parking spaces...

Academic mission. Strong sports and social environments at a university help to bolster applications and boosts the caliber of students at Clemson.

Also softball might be a bad example in your quixotic mission against women's sports. IF we were able to really parse out revenue by sport softball may actually prove to be accretive. It's always sold out and TV ratings for softball games are soaring. Lots of people, including me, enjoy watching it. TV revenue for that sport will grow exponentially.

I'm glad you enjoy watching girls run around on a minor league field, I don't...

and it's continued growth may one day offset the monetary dumps, doubtful?, but never the 600 premium parking spaces that could've, should've been saved.

As for academics, Clemson's standing sky-rocketed long before softball, gymnastics & lacrosse became a thing. Is it going to hurt, I don't believe so as with DIII and other schools, it provides a rounded offering, but mostly at a loss.

As for chicks and athletics, I'm a big fan as I've said many times.

Again, this is Lara, as with my baby sister and all my significant others, everyone a highly talented and awarded athlete in their own right.

The WCWS averaged 1.3M viewers last year compared to 1.65M for baseball. Investing in softball makes solid financial sense.

PS congrats on knowing women who've played sports; that definitely makes you an ally.

to practice, time, effort and sacrifice.

That doesn't mean I have to like and/or tune into an unenjoyable game to respect their journey, because I've respect for any and all.

I don't watch pro-sports any longer; the last super bowl was the Ravens vs Giants, the last reg. season game was 2007. No MLB, no NBA, definitely not soccer and sometimes tune into the Masters or other majors.

I don't hate men's sport either.

And those numbers don't remotely mean the softball team will ever repay the upfront $16mil, continued losses to date, plus each year the added loss of those premium parking spaces.

"Chief"? Ha.

I wasn't suggesting you hate women's sports just because you don't watch them

You've frequently implied that they shouldn't exist here at Clemson; that we're wasting resources on lesser endeavors. We're just gonna have to disagree on that.

There's only two sports that really makes significant revenue, football and men's basketball, should we get rid of the rest? Baseball and softball are probably break even I don't know for sure and neither do you. Should we get rid of our track program; if we knocked down that facility we could probably reclaim the lost football parking and free up those expenses.

Thanks for posting the ballad by Lightfoot about the Fitzgerald. I've always liked that song, but I haven't heard in a long, long time.
