I am not going out of the country.
Its a small radiography machine for welds. I am sure it has some sort of certificate or data sheet with it.

with something like that as far as transport. FDA deals with stuff that emits radiation for imports and needs extra information.
It has been ages but I used to import some nuclear material for a company.
Probably best to just drive or buy a new machine closer the site visit.

Radioactive material is not hazardous, unless it has been mixed

some some hazardous constituents. It is DOT Type 7 material.
I do not do a lot of transportation, so I do not know the entire process. You will almost certainly have to declare it to the airline and have it properly manifested and have the paperwork with you. I don't know what the manifesting process is. See here: https://www.nrc.gov/about-nrc/radiation/pretects-you/hppos/hppos241.html# There may be other help elsewhere. Airline may be able to help as well.
