are the Davis twins that good???

Sep 18, 2013, 3:31 PM

just wondering. we're on the radar for some real studs for next year's class at linebacker and i'd hate to use 2 scholarships on lesser players just because their dad played here and works here. i kinda think we did that with greenlee last year... i hate to sound like a jerk, but scholarships are so valuable when you only have 85 of them.

If you'll take a look at the Jr class and those younger...

you'll get an impression of Dabo's ability to identify and recruit natural talent. If you look at their development and maturation you'll get your second clue.

Don't believe they are on scholarship now. Greyshirts

Greyshirts ARE scholarships smh

Sep 18, 2013, 5:23 PM

Not necessarily the people in this thread but so much misinformation. Greyshirt is a scholarship. Has nothing to do with money but WHEN you come in. A greyshirt comes in Dec as opposed to the fall. Allows you to be here for a spring to work and get a summer to develop, all before redshirting. Allows you to count the scholly differently as well. Doesn't start counting until the next class if you are limited in a given year. Perfect for the Davis boys because they are young for their class I think and still growing.

They were injured due to the hip and when they are on the field you hear their name repeatedly. They are solid and make plays constantly. Not flashy freakish athletes, very very strong and could be DEs one day. They don't do the camp circuit so it limits their exposure and rating. They diagnose plays very well and HIT VERY HARD.They must be being tutored by their dad. The games I saw this year they single handedly dominated with huge sacks, blocked punts and heard their name all night. I went away impressed.

We are able to take 25 in 2014. Two scholarships to JD and Judah will not hurt us then, plus they will have 6 months to hit the weights and work to where they are on the same level as the other higher ranked guys in that class.

ok, i did that and this is what i came up with....

Sep 18, 2013, 3:48 PM [ in reply to If you'll take a look at the Jr class and those younger... ]

mike bellamy, lateek townsend, colton walls, cortez davis, tony mcneal, jerome maybank, morgan roberts, shaq anthony, rod byers, kevin dodd, b.j. goodson, spencer region, tony steward, all have have yet to make an impact (or aren't even here anymore). besides, i wasn't knocking dabo's evaluation of talent, just wondering if he might be doing a few too many favors. the davis' aren't even rated at this point. go look on rivals at how many highly rated lb's have us at or near the top of their lists for next year.

Sep 18, 2013, 4:10 PM

well there you go... 4 LBs recruited in that group that 'have yet to make an impact or aren't here anymore'.
So why worry about it?

Re: ok, i did that and this is what i came up with....

Sep 18, 2013, 4:28 PM

not "worried about it"... i just asked a simple question (that no one has answered yet). are those guys really good or not? i don't have a problem with offering 2 star guys or whatever, in fact there's a 2 star linebacker at bhp that i wish we'd offer right now. why? because he can play & i've seen it. so if anybody has seen j.d. and judah play, please respond to the question. i wanted an assessment on thier skills, not a lesson on player evaluation by coaches, what a grey shirt is or anything else. the rest of you trolls can shove it

You sounded worry about it by explaining how you'd hate to waste 2 valuable scholarships on lesser players.
There have been plenty of five star guys to waste a scholarship too.

74 paws, you're a weiner but i'll play along. i never said "waste scholarships". that was your words, not mine. i said "use". again, i'm not worried about anything (or worry about anything as you so eloquently put it) pertaining to sports. i tend to only worry about important things in life, not entertainment. i merely wanted to know how the davis twins looked on the field. i wanted to know if i should expect to ever see them as anything more than a special teams player for us or not. i think we've turned a corner in recruiting and now have players interested in us that wouldn't even take a call from us in the past. we have a certain allotment of scholarships for each position and using 3 linebacker spots for marginal players when blue chip players want to come here seems like a lot to me. maybe keeping coach greenlee and jeff davis happy to keep them around is worth 3 spots. if so, then so be it. i like dabo and trust his judgement.

i didn't know you were so "literal" or the grammar police...weird. i was merely answering your question indirectly. i guess you couldn't "read" into it. i also pointed out what you "insinuated".

The coaches do this for their livelihood. Do you think that they are going to do something to get themselves fired? What did you think of Adam Humphries? He was only a 2 star that Dabo and company found.

Re: are the Davis twins that good???

Sep 18, 2013, 4:02 PM

again, not knocking the evaluation skills of the coaches. i simply asked if they were that good, because i haven't seen them play before.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

they are either cu scholarship worthy or they aren't.

Sep 18, 2013, 4:35 PM

apparently they are.

Sep 18, 2013, 4:38 PM [ in reply to Re: are the Davis twins that good??? ]

No, they are not that good. They are good high school players with potential to grow as their father did. There are many more talented players on the recruiting board, but sometimes you have to do the "right thing". This is one of those cases. I can assure you that these guys are not being signed as gray shirts to prevent a 4 or 5 star from having a position on the commit board.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They are solid players.

Sep 18, 2013, 4:32 PM

Both were hampered by a hip injury a year or two ago and thus didn't play much that year. However, they read their keys pretty well, are tough players, and physically look the part of LBs. How much they will contribute I don't know. We are getting very deep at LB, we're bringing in 3 this coming cycle already, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them make an impact one day down the line at least on ST.
