Clemson has been Down Before (Long)

Tired of licking my wounds from last week. I have been thinking about tomorrow’s game and the opportunity in front of the Tigers! Saturday was not fun. But it helps to remember that this is not the first time our Clemson Tigers – under Dabo – have been down.
I confess…in 2008, I didn’t really expect Dabo to win a National Championship. Clemson was seeking a new HC after Tommy Bowden. I hoped Clemson would hire someone with a proven track record. Hiring a guy who had served as an interim at Clemson after being the WR Coach seemed FAR too risky.
I could not have been more wrong.
2010: Clemson came up short against South Florida in the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte, thus completing a 6-7 season. Clemson was at a low point. Likewise, my confidence in Dabo was quite low as well. When he subsequently said that Clemson would have its best decade – ever – in the 2010s, I was certain he could NOT pull that off. Again, I could not have been more wrong.
2011: Clemson won its first ACC Title in decades! That was fun!! Then the Tigers allowed West Va to put up 70 points in the Orange Bowl. That was not fun at all.
2013: In 2013, Clemson was embarrassed by FSU 51-14 – at home. But they won 11 games that season and won the Orange Bowl.
2015-2020: Clemson ascended to the top of the sport. It was glorious!
2024: We all see that since 2021 Clemson has slipped - again. I was at the game against UGa on Saturday. The second half got ugly. Things got away from Clemson fairly quickly.
Yes, the game has changed dramatically - off the field more so than on. Will there need to be coaching changes to fix these issues? Will the current coaching staff need to change how they do things to fix these issues?
Regarding 2024: We still have 11+ games to find out. You can enjoy the journey – or choose not to.
What we do not know: What happens in those 11+ games will likely determine if there will be coaching changes – or even coaching philosophy changes. None of knows what will actually happen.
What we do know: We’ve been down before and we have recovered. I recommend we embrace the journey!

Transfers, transfers, and transfers. Not to mention NIL. You don't know who your playing today. Huskies take down the Irish.

We learned last year that even disappointing starts can result in midseason turnarounds and the ability to finish on a high note.

That is true. Here's hoping it does not take until midseason to turn things around!!

Hopefully, Tyler sent Dabo a text and now is giving the 'everybody's job is on the line' speech to both the offensive players and coaches.

the Tigers to open up a can of major whip-asss from the get go tomorrow night, said with no disrespect for App State.
Yet, a win with steady progress as we wend through the season may be more than likely, which would be acceptable to most.
Regardless, GO TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank You! Facts are wonderful things. Sweeney has never failed to right the ship - he has proven to have a unique ability to build solid teams that can compete at a national level, while graduating over 90% of his players. He's the only Coach in the Country that has been able to build a powerhouse, AND a great place to get a College degree. He's in a group of ONE when it comes to that detail. Nobody touches has graduation rate / National Rankings, and it's not even close. It's become so taken for granted, that we've forgotten to appreciate the WHOLE of what the Clemson Program is, and who created it. We have the Best Overall Coach in the Country, and it's not even close. Good to see there are still a few Clemson fans on this site. its good to see that everyone hasn't left. Also a great reminder of who Clemson is.

Just really slow to pull the trigger on coaches. Streeter must have mouthed off of something to get fired as the offensive play hasn't changed a bit. OL coach hire was awesome IMO, just surprised me ol' Grish wasn't shown the door as well.

If Clemson doesn't win the rest of your games the whole coaching staff should be fired. The 2 toughest games you have left are N.C. State and Louisville, not exactly murderers row.

Offense still in funk going on 4th season , passing attack & coaching still struggling to make basic plays. If the same problems keep going on each year, how do you keep fans interested/ entertained

I’m with you Prof!
Disappointment in one result does not justify ludicrous jumps to conclusions (I’m just as guilty). But looking back to 2006-2010, its beyond question that this program is in an entirely different world compared to back then. One game does not a season make.

Thank you. Now the Vegas line for this game is -16.5 Tigers, and I say that we cover, but if we only win by 1 point, I'm happy and its win bc with the talent that our team has they have to get better each week in spite of a few of our position coaches!!! IMO the offensive side of the ball is where most of our inexperience coaching is at, but hopefully with Matt Luke and Riley working together with each other they can help those other two to become a little better with their jobs... That's what I'm praying for anyway...
