Your Top 3 Regular Season Games all time you saw in person

Difficult question...
But I would probably go with
1) Clemson USC The Catch One in Columbia... No Cigars Tonight Was a student at the time, and we were in the endzone away from the catch, so almost couldn't see what happened until we say the refs hands go in the air. Kids were falling all over each other!
2) Clemson / UGa 1987 ; sitting in first row of upper stands and thought I was going to fall out of the stands (those Clemson UGa games were great)
3) Maybe Clemson Louisville game last year... or could be one of the Clemson GT games...
Seems that most of the FSU games that were close I didn't see in person...
I just haven't seen as many in person as gotten older and lived away...
Anyone?

Had to throw a loss on my list.

1) 87 UGA. I was in the upper deck as well and know exactly what you mean
2) 88 FSU. 12 years old sitting on the bottom row directly behind the FSU bench. I heard a lot of new words that I didn't know existed that day.
3) 2011 @ Maryland. I took a lot of #### from Maryland fans during that game. The 4th quarter that night made it all worthwhile. I'm not one for running my mouth at opposing fans, but it was warranted that night. It almost seemed like they enjoyed the banter, so I went with it. No fists flew, just words. Glad that bunch left the ACC.

It was a nail biter until about 14 minutes left in the 1st quarter. Then, Tech rallied to score 222 unanswered points and a 222-0 victory.

1980 vrs. South Carolina -- first time for "Orange Pants" !!! I was standing on the giant concrete pillows holding up the scoreboard, behind west end zone aluminum bleachers, when Willie Underwood intercepted a pass & ran it back for a score ( I jumped up,hit the bottom of the iron scoreboard with my head****, & knocked myself to the ground some 5ft. below )I was quite "drunk" so didn;t feel the knot till' the next day !! we won 27-6
1988 vrs. Florida State -- ""Puntrooskie"" we were ranked 3rd & Fla.St. ranked 10th - we had the lead at half time, let ""Neon Dion"" run a punt back to tie, then the ""rooskie:: /??? took me a week to quit shaking my head in dis-belief ?? lost 24-21 wow, just wow !!!!!
2003 vrs. Wake Forrest -- stopped to get tailgate food on the way up,while waiting for food, saw a litter of "kittens" looking for food around the dumpster ( all were Black ) my buddy says, oh heck,we gona loose today,""look at all the dang black cats"" __ we won 63-17 !!!
Best of the best was the 1971 Georgia game, was my first date with my wife of 45 years -- Tigers lost 28-0 __ but I won her heart !!!!!! GO TIGERS*

1) FSU (2003 I think) - 1st time Bowden beat his Father. Derrick Hamilton had a big game
2) Miami triple OT loss
3) GT - can't remember which year, we had Gameday, all Purple. Spiller & Davis put on a show.
Many other memorable games. aTm, UGA and more.

I would have swapped that one for the 2005 aTm game, only for the drama. The GT game was much more of a spectacle (and a marvelous one at that!)

FSU in '03. Got a piece of the goal post and a great story that night.
The catch II
63-17
The most memorable competitive games would be a different list, but these were my favorite ones. Still have all my tickets to these games.

Was the FSU goalpost the one that got cut with a battery-powered saw? Can't remember which one that was... Were you walking with the upright that got pepper sprayed (some geniuses thought "let's take this downtown!")
Catch II was a great game... definitely a roller coaster at the end... I loved how loud that lowly little corner got for such a short time, only to see it all ripped away a minute later. Hunt was 8/13 that year on FGs... made it that much sweeter to see him hit it.

Yes! Except I was with the crossbar and base. Yes, we were pepper sprayed on the field and when we headed downtown. A police dog bit the guy in front of me. Luckily, it was mostly the fabric of his jeans. But, he was drunk enough (as most of us were) that he wouldn't have noticed something worse. The whole goal post (two uprights and the crossbar and base) ended up in the reflection pond.
Some guy was in the reflection pond trying to saw through an upright while it was bobbing up and down in the water. After much convincing, he finally brought it to solid ground. 10 mins later, a guy walks up and says, "I got a circular saw in my dorm room." I still laugh everytime I think about it. Just how he said it so nonchalantly.
I give the original guy with a handsaw a lot of credit. Before the circular saw got there, he got through it. His elation was matched by my shock and amazement.
When the guy got back with the circular saw, all of us who helped carry the goal post got a piece of it.
I'm going to tell a detailed story about that night in a post later. It's worthy of it's own post.

Haha, right there with you. I followed an upright around (wasn't room to carry when I got close enough) and ended up helping carry after the failed downtown venture... got pepper sprayed after moving in to help a kid carrying the back half on his own not get squished by it.
Both for USCe and FSU I used a hacksaw. Got about 5/6 of the way through before you'd get a leg under it and just bend it down to break it (it's like a 1/4" aluminum... rather soft). The power tools were just cheating, but I was rather jealous!
Definitely stories worth telling... I need to drag up some old pictures of myself with 2 post segments and a sign from the North Stands (when they were renovating). Love to hear your experiences, too!

1974 Georgia: We hadn't beaten them since 1955 prior to this 28-24 win.
1987 Georgia: Already described by several.
2009 FSU: The Valley was never more electric than it was that night, WE WILL ROCK YOU! And we did.

Three great games...1983 didn't get my voice back until sometime next week, 1987 one of my first physical encounters with a UGA fan, and 1988 got stupid and bet on a football game and luckily won lots of money...never again.

FSU 2003 Tore the goal posts down. It was a big deal
Wake 2006 (in Winston Salem, in the rain) Gaines Adams' Kick Six. We were about to go down by 17 in the 4th quarter. Ended up winning by 10
USCe 2003 (in the roach) 63-17

1989 at SCAR the 45-0 game. Was a really cold night and me and my girlfriend (now wife) had low end zones seats. But watching them all leave in the 3rd quarter was classic.
1988 vs Fla State, the puntrooskie for a loss? and just my sophomore year. I am still pissed as Bowden called a timeout he didn't have to kick a fieldgoal.
1992 at Virginia, I had just moved to Roanoke after Clemson graduation in May. I was listening to Jim's call on the radio and we were WAY behind so I quit listening and did something. I turned it back on in time to hear the last comeback TD, what a game!

The Catch 2 - was half way up the hill and centered on the goal post. Wonderful feeling when it went through
63-17 best experience in Cola
and though we lost I really enjoyed the BC game where Ryan ripped our hearts out and Kelly almost was able to put it back in.

Did you have twins?
Were "your first born and daughter" born in the stands?
If so, you win the "best game you saw in person" contest.

Bunch of memorable ones the past 10 years
Dec 15, 2017, 12:45 PM
|
|
2015 Notre Dame in a hurricane. Unreal game attended with great friends. Couldn't make it back to Columbia until later the next day to flooded neighborhoods.
2005 Miami ... It was loud. Needed 1 ticket. Random dude downtown gave me a free ticket on 50yd line, home sideline, 15 rows from the field. Best seat ever.
2000 South Carolina ... the Catch 2
Other memorable ones: 1993: Clemson 24, UNLV 14 ... Freshman at Clemson watching my first ever game in-person
2009? FSU ... We will rock you game, then McDaniel interception
2015 FSU ... when I realized this was the best team and most special season I'd ever experienced
2016 Louisville ... back and forth. Consistently loud game (even sitting in upper decks)

1. 1959 vs Wake. Won 33-31 in the last 2mins. Norm Snead was Wake's QB. First CU game attended.
2. 1977 vs. ND. Think it was the first game where most everyone stood the entire game.
3. 1982 vs. Wake Thought we were going to score 100. 3rd team fullback ran 80 yards for a TD.
