Don’t know how you come to that conclusion from that shot. You might have a better case for that from other shots, but remember that the defense is just as entitled to the ball as the offense. Terrell was in a better position to make the catch than the receiver. A no call would have been the best decision, but definitely not DPI.

Okay, watched it several times enlarged. Fair amount of holding on both parts. Still think a no call was in order. Terrell had position.

AT wasn’t making a play for the ball when the main contact took place. The Duke guy was trying to get there, albeit by going through the same AT who was facing him, instead of looking at the ball.

Defensive PI every time.

At a minimum defensive holding......questionable PI call.

... and we have literally had a terrible PI problem for two to three years. Idk why NFL scouts think Terrel won't get PIs in the NFL on every play

AT is doing the right thing by holding (or with PI) than allowing the TD.

AT is ‘making the right play’ AFTER he gets beat.

I agree that those odds-&-ends ‘talent’ pundits who rave about AT as being a 1st or 2nd round NFL draft pick are out of their minds.

I do think that AT will get drafted and maybe make the team, as opposed to being put on a Practice Squad.

PI FOR SURE. Good angle because it was defensive holding all the way until the very end when defender fell from his own momentum.

Had the roles been reversed, Clemson fans would be defending the call all day and year.

No WR initially made an out move and defender jumped inside

Both had hands on each other but clearly Clemson defender used his feet to establish inside leverage. Ball thrown to outside might have been holding but just a chit read throwing it inside. Got bailed out by ref on a very bad call .

Clemson’s defense sucked a lot just not on that play. The arm fighting goes on almost every route.

At the very least... AT was not looking at the ball. He was preventing the player from making a play on the ball without any situational awareness of where the ball was. Just like a PI called on an underthrown ball where the DB has no idea where the ball is. It is the correct call.

An offensive player cannot just run through a defender who has established position and be entitled to PI. If ball throw to outside, then any hanging on is PI.

Thrown on n side is a bad read and just got bailed out by Ref.

I don’t agree. I will stipulate that it should not have come down to that play, if that’s what you mean. But that one call absolutely did cost us the game bc if no call is made, Clemson wins.

But making the call did not automatically hand the game to Duke in the same way it ripped the win from us. We still could have stopped the TD or the conversion.

Saw Hampton grab a receiver in the end zone as well. Corners are not well coached.

Like many highly rated college DB coaches, his primary job is recruiting.

Remember UNC CB coach Dre Bly? He was a super star CB when a player at UNC and had a fine NFL career as a CB. As for coaching college players, he was flat awful.

Mike Reed is solar systems better as a coach than Dre Bly, but it’s a stretch to call him a great actual coach for developing college CBs.

Y'all are focusing on the last two secs of the play. AT held the WR for 5 secs before they got to the 3 yd line.

Both players were holding, and you will see that on any play. Never called, so why call it in that situation? The only way the receiver was going to even come close to making the catch was to run through AT, who had position. The QB threw off his back foot before being sacked on 4th down, the defender was in a better position to make the catch, and the best decision would be incomplete pass.

but clearly we grabbed and held this receiver quite a bit during the route. Sure, the receiver pushed him over at the end. I don't care about taking flack for this, we were awful defensively either way.

Don't think it was PI because the ball doesn't appear to be in the air yet when the penalty occurred.

The penalty is way before Terrell gets knocked over.
