Granted the defense has to improve number 1

but there needs to be emphasis on recruiting a solid punter. These 30 yard punts are killing us. Giving our opponents a short field was a problem all year and may have cost us the Carolina game.

Yes they are but I also agree with jp. I guess Jack must just be a total bust. What, did we see him in 2 blowout games? Inexcusable for a team of our caliber.

As for the trenches. I honestly saw a big improvement on the oline. Kinda feel Luke was making chicken salad... especially when we got banged up.

The punt game was a factor in our loss vs S.Carolina and vs Texas.

S.Carolina in particular picked up 15+ yards of favorable field position vs us due to the punting differential. Considering that L.Sellers was not making Lamar Jackson-esque or Michael Vick-esque long distance TD runs against us (because L.Sellers is not super fast, he can … and did, against us … be caught from behind), those numerous ~15 yards of field differentials were a likely (albeit not actually provable) factor in our loss.

Texas appeared to have a 10 to ~ 15 yard differential vs us in the punt game. Indeed, I think TX only punted once, so a legitimate comparison of TX vs Clemson punting was not meaningful because the sample size was too small. Regardless, our ~30-ish punting average sacrificed ~10 to ~15 yards of field position. One or two of TX’s TD possessions might have been FGs instead of TDs.

Good teams cannot expect to consistently beat other good teams when the punt game is woefully inferior vs the opponent’s punt team.

If we don’t get it fixed by the start of 2025 season, then despite our other high quality personnel + experience, we’ll lose a game or two that we would otherwise win.

Pinion, maybe. It is mind blowing how short our kicks

Are. Net 40 should be the absolute least you should expect from a college punter
