Grant of Rights History

I'd love to hear from a knowledgeable source about the history of the current
GOR clause. What was the reason for creating such a long term agreement? Who
approved it? etc.

It was created after Maryland jumped to the Big 10.***

You know, that huge superpower Maryland. Bigger than Alabama, Georgia or Notre Dame. Such a huge brand, it freaked out the entire ACC.

The long-term contract was the only way that ESPN would fund the ACC Network. The schools felt they needed the revenue and exposure provided by a new TV contract/station that at the time would pull them closer to the SECN and the propaganda that it provided.
