Not much fun touting "moral victories"
Sep 20, 2017, 8:05 AM
|
|
I noticed something with the UL fans that came to Tnet last week to crow about the upcoming game. What did they really have to use as ammo? Mostly it came down to last year's "moral victory" for UL. You know, they ran a bunch of plays against us. They had a bunch of yards against us. And Clemson's defense must not be that great because, again, they had a lot of yards against us last year. But how satisfying is this really. I know somewhat how it feels from not so many years ago when we mostly had to point out what "might have been." We went a lot of years without even winning the conference. I think it was easy to give up when the first storm blew in. I know inside I often did that during games even if I tried to hide it. I think this is where UL is now. They can talk a big game, but when adversity strikes, inside they are expecting the worst.

Got to have morals to get moral victory.

U of L obviously does have morals with the coaches they employ and the recruits they get from other schools dismissals.

Don't worry, if what I am seeing in ACC Network posts on FB is any indication, VT fans will be no different. They are playing that card too already at Clemson fans.

Another great read David. Love the insights you include. I wonder what the media reported this week after what should have been a humiliating defeat.

lamar Jackson's expressions .....
Sep 20, 2017, 8:47 AM
|

Showed it when he would look to the sideline for the play ... like a half smile and a half shoulder shrug as if to say " come on, really? What am i supposed to do with this ?"
"This" being the combo of his offense and our defense ... just a mismatch from the get-go ...
Anyone else notice "this"

But i thought all week it would be a blowout. I watched Louisville, that didn't match up. I watched Clemson vs Allbarn, we left alot of points on that field, three pass interference no calls aided allbarn. (Auburn) I thought to myself " Bryant could really have lite them up" by what i see the score should have been 28-6. Then you look at the weak D of Louisville and well it didn't seem close. Not sure what the experts saw to think any different. But as we all know. They were wrong. GO TIGER'S!!!!

Great read DHood - got a good chuckle over the uber driver anecdote! Although I may have told you this before, I'll say it again, you tell a good story and could probably do this for a living!
Thanks for what you do!

This game felt like a big road game to me, not a game that would decide the college football playoff. There is a buzz in the air when we go into Tallahassee or Auburn or schools like that, I just didn't feel it at all with Louisville. I was not impressed with their team in the first two games and was very adamant that if we had zero turnovers in the game it would be a blowout. Luckily I was right about that. Their "unstoppable" offense has been stopped plenty of times before.

The Tigers had that happen to them vs. Alabama in 2008.

Huge game for The Tigers - but when Alabama came out onto the field for warm-ups it was a definite "uh-oh" moment.
They were just bigger and had better athletes than The Tigers did...

If said it before and I'll say it again. Thank you Mr. Hood.
This is exactly the type of reporting that keeps me coming back to tnet everyday over the years.
Your articles about your exerpeineces during road games are always my favorites because, as a fellow diehard tiger fan albeit one that doesn't get to attend many games due to location, I feel like I get to experience a little bit of the atmosphere of the game and the emotions you go through as a fellow fan.
It's those insights and that visceral recognition from opposing fans that makes college football special.
So thanks again Mr. Hood. I personally can't wait for your next one.

I remember an article after the O310 State game last year where their media had a very similar experience in Phoenix. They had been talking smack to David and Nikki all the way to the stadium and then realized they were done as soon as they walked on the field with our players. Great Stuff!!!

The one thing that L-ville beats us down with, and that is the way they do team and coaches interviews. I could hear every word said by the players, coaches and the interviewers. There was a little back ground noise, but it didn't sound like they gathered everybody up in one spot and say go. Interviews at Clemson couldn't get any worst if they fired up a jet engine where the do interviews bc we can make out what's being said anyway. They are a total waste of time, and it didn't just get that way, it's been that way for years, and it's worse now since moving in the new building.
