IMO he was right up there with Curt Gowdy and PeeWee Reese who called the Saturday afternoon game of the week in the 60’s and 70’s - my Dad and I watched many of those games together especially in the 60’s.

Don't forget Dizzy Dean! He and PeeWee called games all the way back to the 50s! I always remember Dizzy when the pitcher came up to bat... "next up, the old slugger himself... batting a cool 061." And he would be off telling his stories. Great memories.

My favorite was when someone asked him how he caught Niekro’s knuckleball. He replied, just wait until it stops rolling and pick it up.
