227 - Sammy Watkins with Orange Bowl Record 227 Receiving Yards vs Ohio St

According to ClemsonTigers.com:

“There are records for statistical accomplishments in bowl games, and there are records for accomplishments in any game. Only one Clemson player currently has a single-game record that stands in both categories.

That man is three-time All-America wide receiver Sammy Watkins, who set the Clemson standard for receptions and receiving yards in a game when he had 16 catches for 227 yards against Ohio State in the Orange Bowl at the conclusion of the 2013 season.

In addition to those numbers being Tiger standards, they also stand as records by a player in an Orange Bowl, an annual game that dates to Jan. 1, 1935. It would prove to be Watkins’ final game as a Tiger, and what a way to go out.”

Watkins was named the game’s MVP by the media in attendance, the only time a wide receiver has been named MVP in a Tiger bowl victory.

“When I look back on that game and Sammy’s career, you have to look at Sammy as one of the all-time greats of college football,” added Boyd. “I was so fortunate that my three years as a starting quarterback at Clemson coincided with his three years here.”

Agreed - Sammy was an awesome weapon! Very special player!

As great as he was there is one play that has always stood to me the most. I believe Clemson was playing against Syracuse. Taj Boyd looked to his right at Sammy and appeared to be about to throw him a screen pass. Had Taj thrown the screen pass to Sammy, I am sure Sammy would have gotten positive yardage.

As Taj looked at Sammy for the screen, however, Sammy was pointing downfield - seemingly wanting to ensure that Taj saw Adam Humphries breaking open down the right sideline. Taj immediately threw it toward the end zone to Humphries for a touchdown.

So many of these guys are all about "Me." For that matter, the whole world is chock full of "Me" attitudes. It always stayed with me that Sammy was pointing out a teammate who had a chance to score rather than getting another reception and a few more yards for himself.

Definitely a very special player!

Virginia State Route 227, known as Urbanna Road, runs 2.98 miles from SR 33 near Saluda north to SR 602 in Urbanna.

During the cold, it's good to think warm. Most of us have been to the Y beach just across Hartwell from the Clemson campus. I went a few times back in the day to relax and enjoy the scenery, you know - sun, sand, and lake. Never went to a Bengal Ball. Wasn't in a frat or into getting sloppy drunk and stumbling around lol, just kidding. I know some of you enjoyed going to one or two. The 2nd pic is some of y'all waiting in line at the porta johns at BB 40+ years ago and the 3rd pic is probably now someone's ma and maybe grandma.

I went to Bengal Ball until the stopped it around 1983-84. That was always a great time.
In 1981 the bathrooms overflowed and people just peed anywhere. It didn't matter if the opposite sex was by you or not. Nobody cared.

227 AD was a common year, starting on a Monday. It was, as was recorded

on record and stored in a stone jar on Funk, Wagnalls, and Transvestius porch, The Year Year of the Consulship of Senecio and Fulvius.

227 years ago, it was the year 1797. These here United States were getting ready to do something which had not been seen on the world stage. A sitting ruler, or in our case President, was about to turn over power to a different one, just because the people voted it so.

It was only so in this case because this particular President, the FIRST one, George Washington, was more than ready to retire back to private life after two terms as our President. In so doing, he informally set up the tradition, not at that time written into law, that the President of the United States should only serve two terms in office.

227 MONTHS ago, it was the year 2005. You will never have to remind anyone who lived on the Gulf Coast what event happened that year. Hurricane Katrina caused $125 BILLION dollars in damages, along with 1390 deaths. It was "only" a Category 3 storm, but it was so big, with so much rain and wind, that it breached the levee system around New Orleans, and basically flooded everything. Hundreds of thousands of people were displaced from their homes as a result of the flooding. Some areas have STILL not been rebuilt today, nearly 19 years after the fact.
