Glad Dabo is so good at roster management

Program is now only 1 scholly over and there’s a good chance that one will free up by end of summer as well.

Did I miss a 2nd Portal?

We were 3 over (88/85), and Malcolm GREENE went portal. Did I miss another?

To my knowledge, we're still over the limit by 2.***

Dabo did mention hoping that Greg Williams would stick around in an interview somewhere. He's already graduated and hasn't contributed much.

Being good at roster management

would have meant not getting into this situation to begin with.

The crazy thing is that we were in the opposite situation last year, having a bunch of scholarships unused and wondering how Dabo would fill them with quality players.

But you are correct, scholarships will open up by the end of the summer, because they have to. A few players will be encouraged to leave in order to make room. That's how it works when you're over the limit.

I'm not sure anyone will be encouraged to leave...

Walk-ons who are awarded a scholarship aren't guaranteed that scholarship from one year to the next, and they are all fully aware of that. On that basis, I think Dabo would be more likely to take a scholarship from a walk-on as opposed to encouraging someone to leave.

Technically, all football scholarships are for one year.

So no one is guaranteed to have their scholarship renewed, although it is usually assumed that players placed on scholarship as freshmen will have a scholarship for up to 5 years if they want it.

Dabo has never removed a scholarship from a non-walkon. So, keep chirping.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That doesn't apply to walk-ons...

Apr 26, 2023, 2:13 PM [ in reply to Technically, all football scholarships are for one year. ]

and Clemson currently has a few walk-on players on scholarship.

insures that Helms will keep his scholarship this year. If we lose more than 2 more, maybe he can look at portal players like so many are pushing for with no room available.

Ok, clown show. So, it was bad roster management to be under the limit and reward those scholarships to walk-ons, right? Two of which, by the way, are our starting long snapper and our backup QB.

Now, it is bad roster management to be over the limit? Which, by the way, was caused by some rock-solid studs returning unexpectedly for another season. We are at 2 over the limit with additional time for others to portal or decide not to return for a 5th year (non-contributors, which happens every summer).

Based on your lunacy, we should always be at exactly 85, right? How would you achieve that?

And, just to add - are you at all aware of how other schools manage this? And the fact they over-sign, have to gray-shirt, or manage people out of their program? You think we are mismanaging but you are clearly ignorant - Dabo handles this like a champ.

I don't follow.

Apr 26, 2023, 2:11 PM

Which team at Clemson has had half of its players leave after one year?
