The way I see it...alignment

Aug 19, 2023, 5:43 PM

I kind of wish the ACC would make themselves more marketable, rather than have us and FSU/UNC leave. I enjoy the beatings we normally give the SEC/B1G teams while they are tooting their conferences. It looks to me, if we could get some of those old PAC teams (Stanford, Cal, Wash st, Oregon St), add ND and SMU and maybe three other decent teams, for a total of 24, and split it to 4, six team divisions (east, west, SE, south)....play everyone in your division and 3 out of your division (one in each other division) with a two game conference championship tourney (four champs play in, then championship game for winners)...would make perfect sense...Since the teams would be geographically split, the total cost would probably go down for travel for current teams in conference.

Adding the two California teams would help in most sports except football. Overall, the ACC would have more viewership, and more money. ND is happy to have Stanford, and ND knows that under the current conditions, they have to join a conference to survive in football (covid season should have opened their eyes to what could have happened).

Maybe it would be something like this (it would be nice if someone that has already joined big8/b1g would re-neg and join us (like Utah, Oregon, Wash) instead of the ones that I added below. It would help in powr and geographic distribution (ND & SMU would travel less). Other teams to consider...Tulane, Coastal, ECU

West

That is what everyone says...but eventually, they may have to...they had to join us for all the other sports...

Instead of USF, I meant to put UCF, which has been better in football...

Tulane (currently ranked) would help with SMU. SMU has money, and it further opens up Texas for recruiting. And the California recruits would also help us! We would have teams in every hotbed of recruiting... If we added Tulane and Troy (instead of ApSt and UCF), we would have teams in every state of the top ten recruiting hotbed states (Tex, Fl, Ga, Cal, LA, Al, Va, Pen, Ohio, NC)!

Get to 16 and have a premier league that gets 2/3 the money,

If we can do that and somehow remain competitive

at the highest level, I'm all for it. As it is, every scenario has us falling so far behind the SEC and B1G from a $$$ standpoint that we become irrelevant pretty quickly if we stay in the ACC, even if we do add teams.

With Clemson, FSU, ND, Stanford and a few others, we could not be ignored. They would not be able to "make us go away" and they would have to offer competitive deals...That is my opinion. I can't believe all of those schools in the Big 2 conferences would allow them to throw us away, they would eventually have to admit us, or allow us to participate in the championships. As long as we can stay competitive for a few more years, new contracts would save us.

And, this would all buy time for the GOR to be ineffective in the long run...and have to be renegotiated due to the new members...
