Georgia Takeaways

Sep 5, 2021, 9:24 AM

This is what I take away from last nights gut punch of a game:

Negatives:
- Our offensive line is the worst its been in over 10 years. Pre season there was so much hype that this O-line was nasty, what the hell happened? Watching DJ get sacked when they only rush 3 guys was nauseating. Not sure what the fix could even be for this, going to be a long season.
- DJ did not have an internal clock in his head. Towards the end of the game he was better at getting rid of the ball but he took too many sacks that could have been throwaways. Needs to have more urgency to get rid of the ball or get out of the pocket.
- DJ and receivers not on the same page. It felt like almost every play someone screwed up a route or DJ threw to the wrong spot. This will improve during practice but that was God-Awful.
- Is DJ afraid to scramble? The middle of the field was open almost every play, could have been tearing off 15 yard chunks at a time and wreaked havoc on that defense. I know he’s 250 but man, I was kicking and screaming watching him take coverage sacks when there was 20 yards of green grass in front of him. The coaches will fix this but I just can’t believe he didnt have the instinct to scramble.
- Where the hell was Lyn-J? From what I’ve read he was sidelined for disciplinary reasons but when we can’t move the ball isnt it more important to have our best RB out there? First time be touched the ball in the 4th quarter and busted one for 10 yards on a great cut. I love that Dabo holds guys accountable but theres a time and a place for that.
- I don’t think I can stand another season of Tony Elliot’s play calling. I put more blame on the play calling than the O-line for this loss. Since Chad Morris left we’ve been in playcalling hell with this guy, I will never understand it. 1st and Goal from the 5 and we don’t run the ball once?No QB power with our 6’-4” 250 lb stud? Also why do we never go tempo for a full drive? The past 7 years we’ve seen success the few times we go into tempo and push the sidelines but we so rarely do it and I’ll never ever understand why, its like a reoccurring nightmare. What the hell Tony…. Please for the love of God somebody else hire him as a head coach so Street or somebody else can take over, or bring Morris back!!!

Positives:
- My God, this might be the best defense we’ve had since 2014. Lockdown corners, NASTY D-line, Fast physical linebackers, incredible tackling and we weren’t even at full strength. When we have Tyler Davis and Nolan Turner back it’s going to be unfair. This is an NFL defense, loved EVERYTHING I saw last night. So much heart and fight in this group. Just wow.
- Joe Ngata is a manchild and our clear WR1, he was the lone brightspot offensively last night and I jumped out of my seat everytime he touched the ball. Going to be so exciting to watch this year. Hand strength is ridiculous, played his ### off.

Final thoughts: The season is not over but it’s going to take perfection and luck to make the playoffs at this point. Our strength of schedule is too weak to decide our own fate, were going to need help from others. If this ends up being a season where we go to a new years six bowl, it’s not the end of the world. Winning the Orange Bowl used to feel like winning the superbowl, we’ve become spoiled as a fanbase and last night on social media you could see it in full effect. The real Clemson Fans were easy to pick apart from the bandwagoners on facebook, twitter, and instagram. Remember when we came from, and most important remember…THE BEST IS YET TO COME. #ALLIN
