Nobody cares what some Vandy player did, Swearinger

broke the rules and could have seriously injured the UAB receiver. He deserved exactly what he got---particularly considering his thuggish behavior AFTER the illegal hit.

I'm almost hesitant to say this, but I commend the SEC for taking steps to try to prevent serious injury to "defenseless" players.....I understand football is a violent collision sport, but I, having seen the aftermath of so many players with brain injuries, am glad at least reasonable steps are being taken to lessen those type injuries.

Im on the other side of this debate

I hate the rule. I get that in both of these cases a PF was committed and should've been called, because of the helmet to helmet aspect.

But I hate the 'defenseless receiver' junk. He's in a football game, trying to catch a ball. It's the defenders job to separate him from the ball, and as long as he doesn't spear or hit the receivers head directly (which clearly in this case both did, so it's a good call) then I say let em play.

But the suspension? Not a fan. The Vandy player is closer to spearing which I think should be the bigger offense and *maybe* worthy of a suspension, but as much as I hate the gamecocks I don't see that hit as worthy of a suspension. Or should I say it shouldn't be. It is by the way the rules are now, but I'm just not a fan of that rule. They're football players, let em play.

It's not a foul if you lead with shoulder and hit the

receiver at or below the numbers. You can flat lay him out, you just can't try to kill him by leading with the head and targeting his chin.

The definition of awesome!

I agree that it's not supposed to be

But I've seen hard hits to the chest on a 'defenseless receiver' flagged too many times to count. And they weren't with the helmet of the defender
