Yea because the 2016 team didn’t struggle with Troy? 2016 team had poor offense of showings against auburn, Troy, nc state. They also loss a game to Pitt. To call players soft for winning a close game is soft. Winning close games is what built the 2016 team. They knew how to win close games. This current team is trying to figure that out. If they do they can be dangerous.

I will grant you that we had some close games in 2016. Out of 15 games, 8 were decided by 7 pts or less. However, we did beat 5 ranked teams and our average margin of victory for the season was 23 points. There is NO comparison between that team and this team. Not even close...

This team just isn't good and loaded with star talent. That's why tj parker and brown have shined. None of the upperclassmen are really dominant at either position. DE and WR. which used to be the strength of our team.
It's been a slow transition to seeing us suck at both positions other than a few 18 yr olds that see softness playing in front of them and to be honest I think brown wouldn't have started at all this year had Cole Turner stayed healthy
Also this team hasn't upset anyone in a good while. Meanwhile weve been upset at home by a team we'd beaten badly for almost a decade. Same with fsu but they were favored.
And here's some more for you. I can't imagine being the squad that gave up 2 winning streaks against rivals that extended to almost 20 games. And to make it better they beat us at HOME! oh and it's the same two teams that used COVID as a ln excuse to get out of another butt kicking.

They just want to be seen, and show off how cute and fancy their tailgate spread is. Those people who have banners made with their family name on it, etc. are repulsive.
The old school crowd would never do that crap. We showed up early to just eat what we wanted to eat, pounded some beers, and then went to the whole game and cheered loud no matter what. Oh, and most games were at 1:00 and we didn’t complain.

Maybe they would rather hit the bar or have some drinks at the tailgate and listen or watch from there. Also, on Homecoming they might not find that sitting there that interesting in comparison with the product on the field. I would have probably rather hit the bar. Drinks were needed to watch our offense yesterday. JMO

I was there doing the alma mater at the end. But I don’t blame anyone for leaving. The team never showed up at all so at least those fans came for a little while. I’ve probably been to 150 home games and that was among the sleepiest most pathetic efforts I’ve seen. Expectations need to come way way down. Or at least we need to stop believing the pre season hype. Fastest, best whatever it is.

it's a comment on America....
the things that have been lost actually meant something very important: faith, commitment, loyalty, team, sacrifice, community, togetherness, family, patience, humility, respect, etc. etc.
These things no longer exist anymore, and they won't, because the younger generations are insistent that they don't have to learn them.

onus on on their parents to teach them that, its not something you're born with. You boomers blame everything on 'the youth' yet y'all stole the nations wealth and left nothing but generational debt for all of us. I am 43 and teaching mine the importance of all of that, cuz it is sorely missed, I am not alone out here doing the same either.

Figure it out. Who is the demographic/group rejecting everything that made the USA great? I agree with what you mention and would add individual responsibility. These things do not exist because the leftists democrats are closer to commies than democrats of yesteryear and are systematically destroying the USA. Divide and conquer. Make everyone believe (which at least 40% of them do) that everything bad is because of 'how things were' and we have to throw all that out to get back to good. This is how entire countries get conned into socialism (and worse).

mistakes over and over and then being told in postgame press conferences how great this team is. I never leave games until the clock expires, but yesterday was a first. It was more enjoyable in Lot 2 having a cold drink and hanging with my tailgate company than sitting in DV. I don’t blame people yesterday. That was an awful performance that was hard to get excited about.

Your oline is the worst I’ve ever seen. They’ve done everything wrong short of pulling a Muschamp and blocking each other during a play. I also blame you for the 7 penalties Clemson has had this season inside the 10 yard line, which you can argue led to losses against Duke and FSU.
You should be fired ASAP.

"Coach Austin" and "worst".
Why do people like you think you can get on here, and call out players, Coaches, teams, etc. but you can't be called out yourself.
You're the one who started "the worst".
So fine: give us your grades, give us your play designs, give us your detailed commentary on how the unit works as a whole and which players seem to work better as a part of unit than by themselves. Mostly talk about how play-calling sets up the O-line to fail or succeed. Give us reasonably detailed expected results, not just pie-in-the-sky name-calling....

Tigerdrummer gave specific examples of the OL unit’s issues.
And he is not paid lots of money to put an effective OL unit on the field.
That unit, specifically, is the worst position group on this team. And I know that because I played OL in college. They are horrible on so many fronts.

oline. Which is Austin’s job.
My observations on why the oline is bad:
Our players were being pushing off the line of scrimmage on run blocking plays..against Wake. One would think Clemson could get a push against teams like Wake. I saw the same things against Charleston Southern. Are our players being out-played by what should be inferior opponents or are they playing down to the opponent? Either way that’s coaching.
Run lanes and blocking assignments. I blame Coach Spiller a bit for this too because our backs aren’t finding running lanes inside the tackles. I noticed linemen completely whiffing and missing their blocking assignments, too. Clemson has the resources and the players. The missing component is coaching. That’s why I blame Austin for these ongoing issues.
The false starts speak for themselves.
Also, calling someone “the worst” isn’t name calling. If you need examples of name calling just look at your post history. Nearly every comment you make on TigerNet includes calling someone a name. Talk about pathetic (that was name calling). My job, which I’m pretty good at, isn’t being watching by nearly a million people every Saturday. I’d be open to scrutiny for improvement, though

well we fundamentally disagree about name-calling
1

1. "Worst" is indeed name calling. It is an adjective designed to denigrate in the extreme.
2. Yes, I do call names - very specifically to those who hide behind their keyboard and act like they're not accountable for their derogatory comments. People don't like it do they? It's not the "safe space" they want, because they want to act like naysayers and crybabies. Eff 'em. Step out in public to make public comments, then get treated like a public persona.
IF YOU GET ON HERE AND DENIGRATE OTHERS, BE PREPARED TO BE DENIGRATED AS WELL. YOU AREN'T SPECIAL BECAUSE YOU POST ON TNET.
3. You didn't answer my post - Mecklenburg was wrong: you weren't "specific". Specific is with specific plays, specific assignments, specific trends. Saying that "we don't get push" is generic, and could even apply to someone on the other side of the line from a play.
All that matters is the execution: where the play is and what is going on at that point. You've spoken to absolutely none of that.
I don't pretend to watch film, though I generally watch the game twice. I'm tired of people saying "I played O-Line in High School". That's BS. It means absolutely nothing, and gives no one credence.
Be specific in your complaints, or just say you were "disappointed" without pointing to anyone in particular.
Personally I don't care about Austin or Riley or Goodwin. I do care though that people denigrate without specific reason, and then want to assert that they can't be called out, lofl.

"How was I derogatory?" R U kidding?
It doesn't matter if you're right or wrong, it's still derogatory. And in the extreme. Saying someone "is terrible at their job" is the definition of derogatory.
Maybe you need a dictionary: derogatory and defamatory are two different things. Entirely.
And who says I don't watch the O-line. But when I can call half the plays, so can the defense. And if the defense knows what's coming, even supposedly simple things like blocking get very difficult.
Their biggest problems at this point are 1) lack of experience at QB, and 2) lack of game breaking talent at WR. We had both of those things when TL16 was playing and it made all the difference in the world as to how the game was called and also how the O-line blocked.
Do I think the current O-line is "great"? Hardly. But there are reasons why they are being put under stress that makes things worse.
Go back and watch DW4 get rushed by Alabama, or even TL16 in 2018. CK2 is under no more stress than that, and by a long shot.

Wrong again, troll. If I’m at a basketball game or watching one on TV, I’m in it till the end. And I watch as many as I can, regardless of what part of the season it is or what our W/L record is. Same for baseball, softball, etc.
Nice try, but a big whiff. Troll on.

There is a lot of wavering going on here. Always is if we’re aren’t winning the championship. Not too different than they act during basketball season. It has just been more evident during basketball season over the last decade or so because of our relative success in football vs basketball.

In a tight game mind you. The crowd was as weak from a noise perspective as the players on offense. At least from what you could tell on TV. You don’t leave in a tight game. But I like watching the entire game anyway.

Re-seat people from where they’ve sat their whole lives, and in general make the cost of game attendance astronomically higher, so you can pay a man $11M bucks a year to coach a football team. It’s big business now, it’s no longer family, and IPTAY themselves can wear the blame for that for continually seeking to extract as many dollars as they can from loyal fans’s wallets
It’s also what you get when the university jacks tuition sky-high, and creates a student body that’s almost 50% out of state, with most of those students leaving SC after graduating.
At the end of the day, we are a school in a small town in the middle of nowhere, SC. People need to decide if they want us to be a giant money-printing machine, or a small town school and athletic program who values their fans and alumni, because God knows we have shown that they can’t be both.

tell him that the "goals" he's setting aren't real: "Dollars" don't mean "true Fans".
No doubt he'd not understand in any way. They're making the Nascar mistake all over again.
Ask him to describe to you in detail exactly what his vision is for people sitting in their seats until the end of a game against Wake Forest.
It matters.... more than most know. Why?
Because one of those teams from yesterday isn't moving on to the Brave New World of Premier League College Football with only the "Big Brands" winning every year, and relegation for everyone else. One of those teams has already been shifted to the back, while the other still has just a bit of yesterday's glory built into it's image.
That 2nd team is trying to be the Green Bay Packers of CFB, which it can't do without committed fans...

About jacking up prices and making it more of a business. It does not l make Clemson a fundamentally different place or eliminate the family feel.
I spent almost all of Friday walking around campus, downtown, went to the soccer game, seeing the floats etc. and there are still a lot of elements of the old Clemson family all around.

You didn’t imagine any of that. I saw it too. But it’s not as all or nothing as you present it. Lots more than 2 people represented in those posts, if you bother to read them. My statement that for SOME, it is still family is just as unimagined as yours impression. I saw that too. No doubt, especially reading here, for SOME, it is only all about winning (and whining if we don’t, or don’t win big enough). So much so that Clover was compelled to ask if he was the only one that enjoyed the day. Again, to those folks who did not enjoy the day, sorry about your luck, or maybe about your choices.

To do with it, or if you’re trying to get in some jab. Life’s great, as are my choices and “luck”. I’m 6+ hours away in Nashville these days. I probably would have kept the seats we had had forever in UQ anyway after moving from SC, but the regular increases made it ridiculous given I might make 2 games a year now, and I damsure wouldn’t have my Lot 2 spot here in 2023 without tripling my donation. Besides, I had noticed that a lot of the long time tailgaters around me had started drying up, and spots were now owned my some random Greenville law firm or corporation, and the people showing up each week were completely different guests, usually with no Clemson ties, given the spot and the tickets as a business perk. It was changing even before I moved, so I had the good “luck” of IPTAY making my “choice” easy not to continue my support, as they clearly didn’t need or want it. They sure didn’t mind it in the 90’s and 2000’s though (and the 50’s through the 80’s with my grandfather and father) back when Clemson on game day wasn’t the place for upstate elite to see and be seen.
So of course you can still go to a game and have a good time, no one is saying otherwise, but there’s a whole lot less orange blood running through the stadium than there used to be. Don’t fool yourself otherwise.

Not just seat equity. I was moved for the new west end club after 39 years of loyalty to IPTAY. There’s no layalty of Clemson athletics to those that have been loyal - even through some very very bad years.
I hope Clemson wins but between the treatment of loyal fans and a poor product on the field, no one should lecture fans on “loyalty”.

I stayed until the end, but last time I checked we still live in a free country. If people want to leave the stadium after paying all that money for tickets, etc., that is their business not yours. I have sat around the same general group of people for 20 years or so, and about half of them left just after half time. So it is not just bandwagon fans.

leave right after half-time when it was still 20 years ago.
No one said "fans can't be weak minded". No one said that at all.
What he said was that fans used to come for the enjoyment of pulling for the team for 60 full minutes. That was the experience. That was the attraction. That was the point of the purchase.
Back when people had less "discretionary income", they made their extra dollars work longer and harder.... and indeed, probably enjoyed it more as well.

Is in years past, if you left the game early the only way you could know the outcome was to listen to it on the radio. Now you can have a big screen TV set up at your car, and watch it while sipping a cold drink and eating homemade BBQ.
As technology gets better and better and it gets even easier to watch a game from anywhere, it’s only going to get harder to put butts in the seats.

They have given up and are ready to fire Dabo because the Tigers are 4-2 at mid-season. What a bunch of low-rent whiners. Pathetic. Yes, it was difficult to watch but was it a victory. Yes it was. So put on your big boy pants and stop you whining. Every Saturday brings something different. That's why we love college football. Get over yourselves. Nobody cares what you think. Nobody cares that you want the entire coaching staff fired. It just doesn't matter.

My kids are godly. They are athletes. They understand authority and authority systems. As a result, they are honor students. Beta club and all that. They also love the Tigers AND the Longhorns.
And they all left mid-third quarter yesterday. They got cold and bored -- went back to the condo to watch on TV.
So maybe you're running on a false premise.
My kids see football and the "Clemson thing" for what it is:
ENTERTAINMENT.
It is not life. It does not move the needle on anything that matters.
They show up, have fun, hang with the fam and friends, and go home when they've had enough.
And Im proud of them for discerning what football is. Which is nothing but a game.

I’d say the fan base of 2023 is more passionate than the fan base of 1973. Go back and look at pics of 1973 or previous, I bet there weren’t 50k at the games. Obviously, there were way too many bandwagon fans back then. Also , Clemson has the good fortune of having passionate visiting fan bases like Wake Forest to help fill up the corners unlike SEC schools that do not travel like Alabama,UT,S.Carolina,UGA

Over the past 40+ years of watching Clemson football, I have noticed the two (2) distinct ways fans express their displeasure with the football ball team. The first being vocal by booing in unison towards team. The second is extremely noticeable empty seats at meaningful points in the game. The latter is the most devastating as it shows the fan base has indifference towards the team and has given up. That’s a program killer

watch out! all the super old tigers (late 40s to 50s or older) are going to call you a bandwagoner and lecture you about what you make and when you leave and how THEY did it like 25 years ago. they are fine with going 8-4 because.. we were good for a decade and thats enough because we werent great when they were in school and you'd better appreciate being 8-4 or else!
as a 3rd generation tiger i will leave when i please specially when im watching a crap effort... dont care if you "care if i ever come back." ill be back next week and next year even the year after.. and forever long after you are dirt.

It was embarrassing but it was homecoming. It happens every year. Annual family treks with small children that culminate a busy weekend with a drowsy football game.
… kind of like the chicken/egg story.
Do rabid fans get the team excited and make them play better OR does good football get the fans excited?

or maybe the game is sooooooo absolutely boring and lifeless... the TV timeouts were dreadful... the offense was putting people to sleep... it was hot until late in the fourth and I cannot blame anyone for heading out...
They finally put a drive together and take a knee to end it...
At the 9-minute mark of the 3 quarter there was 6 minutes of football and 12 minutes of TV timeouts...
Nothing says Championship football like 3.5 hours of snoozefest and TV timeouts...

Couldn’t be me. I’be been taking cough drops for 2 days now. Started screaming when they ran down the hill and didn’t stop until the clock hit 0.
