-- Big 12 expansion rests, indirectly, on a perceived gentleman's agreement with the SEC. The league supposedly would not expand to states where there currently are teams. That seemingly takes Florida State, Clemson and Georgia Tech out of the mix.-

If somehow true might explain a few things.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So if that's the case there would be a gentlemen's agreement

Nov 30, 2012, 1:59 PM

that the teams within the SEC won't allow in-state teams to be added to the SEC, in addition to a gentlemen's agreement where the SEC won't allow the B12 to take SEC area teams?

Seems fair.

Nov 30, 2012, 3:49 PM [ in reply to So if that's the case there would be a gentlemen's agreement ]

So the Big 12 would agree to stay away from FSU, Clemson, GT, Miami and Louisville and only target VT, Pitt, Cincy and BYU? I'm pretty sure the Big 12 leadership is much smarter than that.

If and when the Big 12 decides to expand, the SEC won't be able to keep them out of the Southeast. If the SEC changed course and invited Clemson and FSU, then the Big 12 could go after Miami, VT, NC State, etc. I can't see any scenario where the Big 12 doesn't have some kind of foothold in the southeast in the next 2-5 years.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What sort of gentlemen's agreement was involved when

Nov 30, 2012, 1:59 PM

the SEC raided the Big12 for Mizzou/TAMU putting them on the brink of extinction?

Don't believe these two are in cahoots.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Personally, I think Dodd is just perpetuating an old rumor

Nov 30, 2012, 2:00 PM

There are no such agreements. They do what makes sense financially and if they have enough votes. Pure and simple.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So SEC want take us but they want let Big 12 take us either

Nov 30, 2012, 2:01 PM

So if ACC collapses we are the one's screwed over some Gentlemen's agreement.

That's enough to make me fighting mad.

BUT if this is the case why is Texas A&M now in the SEC? Does this thing only apply to the teams in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina? URGH . . .

If thats true then the big 12 just let the sec take tamu .

The sec moved in to Texas , what agreement

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

thebig12 needs 2 teams to have a ccg. reportedly that game

Nov 9, 2023, 2:07 PM

would be worth meellyyions and meellyyions.

if they can't touch the southeast, where do they go?

did he say if this was in place before the sec done r-u-n-n-o-f-t with tamu and missou?

Nov 30, 2012, 2:07 PM

LOL that is total BS. So the big12 can only expand to the west? Who are they going to add, UTEP?

Re: thebig12 needs 2 teams to have a ccg. reportedly that game

Nov 30, 2012, 3:15 PM

i think he says that big 12 could go to any school in a state that does not have an sec team. nc,va., and ect. if you are asking where else would the big12 go? how about byu, utah state, boise state, and ect. the gentlemans agreement could have been struck when they agreed on having the bowl tie in between the big12 and sec. just guessing. i am not sure nd will not go to big 12.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

which would be my point. not picking on boise, utah state,

Nov 30, 2012, 3:42 PM

byu, but they are 'available' for reasons.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i think they lie and wait

Nov 30, 2012, 2:06 PM

And grab FSU and us when time is right. Also will grab another to keep WVU from feeling as isolated. No way WVU would agree if some sort of plan not in place.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

wvu went to the acc and sec first; they were short on

Nov 30, 2012, 2:09 PM

choices after those 2 nos.

funny tcu had to join the bigeast then be begged back to the big12 to fill a much needed spot.

thebig12 was and may still be a disaster.

If that dood thinks there's that kind of agreement, then I would like to talk to him about the dood ranch I have for sale in New York City.

The definition of awesome!

I think Big 12 waiting

Nov 30, 2012, 2:11 PM

Till they hold all the cards and pounce. The last thing the SEC wants is Texas and OU all over their little pond and in the end Big 12 going to open their two giant monsters into the south

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i think there's as much chance ou/osu go to the sec as 15/16

Nov 30, 2012, 2:13 PM

and tejas packs it's bags for the pac12 where austin's politics will feel very, comfortable on the sunny shores of san fran's beaches.

but i could be just having fun.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN!!!

Nov 30, 2012, 2:25 PM

Remember this is about the STUDENT-ATHLETE. You can't expect the volleyball and tennis teams to travel from SC & GA to Okla. How will they have time to study for exams with all this traveling. ;)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If the SEC can't dismantle the BIG 12 then no existing...

Nov 30, 2012, 3:14 PM [ in reply to I think Big 12 waiting ]

member will stop the SEC from locking states down by way of accepting new members within states like Fla, GA, SC, and a possible split of of VA with the BIG 10, imo.

Too many N, Carolina schools at play and UNC holds the keys to NCST.

Somehow Vandy needs to be moved.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think Dodd may have been referring to

Nov 30, 2012, 2:13 PM

the gentlemen's agreement within the SEC not to take schools in states in which the SEC already has members.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There are gentlemen in the SEC??? Who knew? *********

Re: from Dennis Dood CBS Sports

Nov 30, 2012, 2:37 PM

Well that agreement according to rumor was when they formed the champions bowl after Texas AM and Missouri left. Don't forget the Big12 was falling apart and the GOR along with the Champions Bowl put them on Par with the other three conferences. PAC12 and BIG 10 are married via the Rose Bowl, and the SEC joined the BIG12 via the Champions Bowl.

I could see that agreement happening, which basically means FSU and Clemson are screwed. GT will just go to the Big 10 to save itself. The ACC teams must jump ship, but FSU & Clemson have no where to go.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: from Dennis Dood CBS Sports

Nov 30, 2012, 3:04 PM

So Clemson and FSU goes independent. Has been working for Notre Dame.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Anyone care to comment on how such a "gentlemens' agreement"

Nov 30, 2012, 3:14 PM

would not be in violation of federal antitrust laws?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

other Big 12 fans feel they are not expanding because Texas

Nov 30, 2012, 3:52 PM

doesn't want to expand beyond 10 teams. I have no idea what Texas wants, but this is the belief amoung many of the rival schools fans.
