Free Agency vs Draft

Every professional sports team builds their roster through both the draft and free agency. You cannot have a successful program by just building your roster through the draft.
I’m smart enough to understand the distinction between college and professional sports, college only has four years of eligibility, but the analogy still has merit.

Then, you are smart enough to know they sign CONTRACTS. The can't jump into the portal every year

It does have merit. Currently the College landscape is the NFL w/o a salary cap and unrestricted free agency followed the every season including the rookie season—

they either have to play for you, or no one else. They can't up and renegotiate every single year. And, other teams can't legally come at them with offers while they are in your employ. And, unlike the NCAA, the NFL is dead serious about tampering violations.
