For the Tiger historians

Nov 15, 2014, 4:21 PM

When was the last time we put a complete team on the field at the same time. Meaning when was the last time we had an offense, defense and special teams ranked inside the top 10 in the country.
For the life of me I can't remeber a time when we've had a complete unit on the field. Either the defense was weak and the offense was great or the defense was salty and the offense was horrid (much like this year). Then there was times where we had soso offense/ defense and our special teams would suck out loud. Thoughts?

I agree with that, but our passing defense wasn't on par with the front 7 for most of the year. Where were we ranked on the national scale; rushing / passing and defensively passing defense / rushing defense?

If you have that kind of team, you win the natty

Nov 15, 2014, 4:30 PM

Very few are going to have that sort of talent and experience across the board in a year. That's unrealistic to expect very often. Whoever wins the natty this year will be a deeply flawed team.

3 top-10 units is more than a complete team.

Nov 15, 2014, 4:28 PM

That would be an all-time great team that probably won a national championship. FSU last year was probably top 10 in all categories, but even the Saban Bama teams and all that won titles weren't top 10 in all 3.

Also agree with that statement. However, the Bama teams that you did see under Saban that didn't have top 3 top ten units still complement one another pretty well. Meaning one unit didn't actually hurt the other one, much like Ours do most of the time.

Well, it's called recruiting a complete team and coaching a complete team. Maybe we need a team of coaches who can do that. Reckon?
