What if this team plays in the ACC CG?

Historically, we start out slow and gain momentum throughout the year. I remember even under DW and TL we struggled with teams until the second half. Remember the Troy game in 2016? I see the App St game on Sat drawing many similarities to that Troy game. Troy was a good football team and so is App State.
It's yet to be seen, but UGA is a very very good football team. I was very frustrated with what appeared to be an anemic offense on repeat for 4 years, but maybe UGAs defense was just that good and we didn't help ourselves. Aaron Murray's breakdown of Cade was spot on. Like Dabo says, that experience will make the team better and we got through it without any serious injuries.
I am not going out on a limb and saying we will run the table... I am sure we will have a few more offensive head-scratchers this season, but I do believe this team will be in Charlotte for the ACC CG in December. If we win that, we will be in the CFP. I will take our chances if we get there against what seems like it will be a talented Miami team.
As painful to watch as that UGA game was, let's just see how the rest of the season plays out. The defense will do their part, and I think the offense will lean on the run game with Mafah and we will do enough in the passing game to get to the ACC CG.
Go Tigers !!!

They are, by far, better than any defense and team we will face this year.
UGA has tough games at Bama, at Texas, and home vs Ole Miss and UT. I imagine they may drop one of those, but will be in Atlanta for the SEC CG.
For us, I hope UGA runs the table through the SEC CG and gets the number one seed in the CFP. That would be the best for us.
Should we meet again, I will take our chances and go from there.

If that's true, then Clemson really is in a world of hurt. I do think we get better, a lot better, as the season progresses, but it will take a huge turnaround from what we saw last week against uga. I hope we see it.

If they hold down the offenses of Texas, Ole Miss, ALA, and TN then I will be a believer of best defense in the country.

T-Net is the home of extreme reactions and couch experts. We lost to what is likely the best semipro team in college football where we were able to match them play for play in the first half yet all of a sudden, we are terrible, and all hope is lost. Had we destroyed a Kent St or Furman in the first game, we would be world beaters and a shoe in for a deep run in the playoffs.
Then you have the couch experts. They have never played or coached football, never talked to one of our coaches or been to a practice but somehow, they can draw a conclusion on what changes are needed for us to be the alpha dog in college football every-single-year.

Football is 4-full quarters, genius. Not just "a half" where we give merit based on our teams inability to score.

Thanks for the reply as I always enjoy reading the coot perspective. Lets see if your team can hang with UGA for a half then get back to me.

The ACC is bad. The ACC was bad before Saturday as well. We can be a mediocre team and still win the conference, but that doesn't make us "ELITE". It also doesn't mean our issues are solved. Just allows Dabo to kick the can down the road. Many fans want to act like last year the team got better b/c they got obliterated by Duke in the opener and finished 9-4...........we had a cute little win streak to end the season against some 5+ loss teams. You saw Saturday that the streak meant nothing.
Before the season I figured we were a 9-3/10-2 team b/c the ACC was so bad...........Saturday did nothing to change that for better or worse.

Dabo's 24-11 vs P5/P4 opponents in the last 3+ seasons.
8 of those 11 losses were against opponents where Clemson supposedly had the on field talent advantage.
In this new era of CFB Dabo has put a mediocre product on the field and on the sidelines w/ his staff.
It can be fixed, but Dabo has to admit he has a problem first and I haven't seen signs of that happening.

it is definately downtrending, but I would still say the state of the program is good. We missed on DJU which is obvious after seeing no improvement under two different teams coaching staff, so the we didn't coach up DJU correctly is not fair. His game against ND and BC when TL was a head scratcher with the only difference being the talent around him.
The jury is still out on Cade.
Last year we had a new OC, and our WR corps was depleted to the point a Swinney started in 2-3 games at WR. Our O line was soft. After last year, we hired Matt Luke.
in 2021, we were 1 point away from the CFP with DJU.
This year, we have year 2 of the new OC, a healthy WR corps, a new O line coach and Cade was a year older. It was ugly, but UGA is a very very good team. Obviously, I wish our two star freshman WR were starting to give our offense a spark as compared to Randall and Turner.
I agree that with our facilities and what we pay our coaches, our expectations should be that "Best is the Standard", but I think some historical perspective is deserved also.
The ACC is soft this year based on the games we have seen played with NC State and FSU. Our schedule sets up for our Tigers to improve week to week and I believe will put together a good year hopefully peaking at the right time to beat a talented Miami team to take us back to the CFP.
If we drop 2-3 in the regular season, I might question the state of the program and change my answer to not good and possibly a nose dive.
I have read your posts about problems you see, and I think they are valid concerns and you bring up many many good points. I am not fully there yet. Let's see how the year goes. My head was with you while I was watching the UGA game, but had to take a step back and digest a few things.

Just spit balling but maybe we can give it more than one week to determine if the ACC is bad or not. I know we are not top heavy like the big two but we are not built that way so that is not a fair metric. Lets wait a few weeks to see what we have as several teams have shown promise.

Ww aren't elite. You can't expect to be elite in perpetuity. There will always be some drop-off, no matter what school you are. The way to get back to being elite is to continue to build on a solid foundation.

We will win our share of games due to the huge talent advantage we have over most of the teams we play, but I don’t think we are well-coached enough to have the kind of year you describe.

I'm with you. I'm willing to give the offense a few games to find it's groove. Dabo has already said he wants Wesco and Moore on the field more. If Cade puts a little more juice on those deep balls (and receivers run their routes) they are TDs because Georgia was gambling by keeping their safeties in the middle of the field.

We can, and probably will, win double digits from the remaining 11 games on our regular season schedule. Miami and we will play in ACC Championship game. That’ll be a tossup.
This year’s team can accomplish this without CK2 suddenly getting a transplant with one of Drake Mayes’ arms. CK2’s arm is good enough for a team with a superior defense to win games; an accurate short game, very good FG kicker, and ball-security oriented offense -&- ball security capable players. CK2 does not have a strong enough arm for us to be a true deep threat team. That’s OK. He’ll still end up having the kind of year that will be very satisfying for almost everyone.

The tough part about not having divisions is the fact that some schools don't have as tough of schedules as other teams. I am not sure how good SMU is but the only tough games I think are at home against FSU (they do not look good at all) and away at Louisville. It would be nice if FSU found a way to win all but one (our game) of the conference games they have left to play.

If we run the table and play in the ACC CG, our ranking will be just fine. There isn't a team in the top 25 outside of the SEC, ACC, Big 10 or Big 12 (except independent ND). Boise St is the biggest threat and could knock us out even if we win the ACC with 2 or 3 losses. But that would only happen if Boise St goes undefeated and they play Oregon next week.

The top four of the five highest-ranked conference champions will be seeded 1-4, earning first-round byes and advancing straight to the quarterfinals. The fifth conference champion will be seeded in the same position it was ranked inside the top 12 (or at No. 12 overall, if it finished outside the top 12 rankings). The remaining teams will be ranked beginning at No. 5 all the way through No. 12.
Side note... I knew before this week the playoff was expanded to 12, but I didn't know the details of the seeing. I had to google it.
