Football Rankings Versus Academics..........

I posted earlier about how ESPN seems to not mention why maybe the SEC is dominant because of their lousy academic standards (particularly for athletes). This may give you a little insight....

to have a great football program, that's what it has to do with football. And, again, naming a couple of exceptions doesn't disprove anything.
On the other hand, I think some of the ACC's problems have more to do with enrollment+ academics, rather than just academics. If you've got a huge school with lots of money and lower academic standards, you're going to have an easier time paying for the facilities and scholarships you need for a major college football program. But just having bad academics doesn't make it any easier to pay for football if you don't have a larger enrollment (and therefore a pretty big alumni and donor base).

love football. It is number 1. The culture of most of the rest of the ACC is basketball number 1. This impacts passion and how fans travel and attend home games.

That makes perfect sense and is much of my point. There is a correlation between academics and athletics. Bringing up a few programs that excell in both is not proof that there is no correlation!

They are all suspect, especially those related to peer reviews and alumni donations as factors. Good NPR expose on this a few years ago.

Yeah, Timmay - I agree with that, but as long as they are held up as a measure of academic, we really don't have much to go on except opinion - and we know what that is like. I have been critical of CU for their "catering" to the World News & Report rankings!

I could, but didn't think it would matter. My only point, is that from the 1960's when I was in school at Clemson, until now, many athletes went to SEC schools (namely UGA) because they could not get in Clemson or other ACC schools. Duke always had that problem. Maybe not as big a problem now, but it is curious why the ACC has much higher rated institutions and lower ranked football programs - coincidence?

Different study that seems more objective than Forbes as it is using earnings analysis/projections and ROI to rate the schools. Same result though... Not too many SEC schools that fare well in the comparison -

The SEC has the best football in the land, but anyone that can't see the obvious reasons why isn't looking very closely. These plyers don't become great the moment they put the SEC patch on their jersey no matter what the Conference Chest-Beaters want you to believe.
