No argument here. I’ve seen all of the top 10 play at least once.

Even if what Shipley done last season was hands down better than any other college RB, do you believe anyone in the media of college sports would have willingly said that he was the best RB in college FB?

Absolutely, Shipley could be among the best.
We saw exactly that just a few seasons ago with ETNT, actually.
And this year we have a schedule that ends with the Heisman opportunities right where we can benefit from them the most, among other things (rather than not one person paid to cover sports would say Will Shipley is elite).
Then again, I'm not sure any other group would have a guy ranked 11th but lead in with "out of the top ten." It's genius for engagement, make no mistake, but we swallow that bait whole every time, & this list was a blast to read through regardless.

Both the eye test and the metrics agree with this article. At least once you take off the orange colored glasses. Although this is preseason, it's just like the postseason awards hype (Heisman, Maxwell, O'Brien, Walter Camp, Doak Walker, Outland, etc.) You still rally for your guy to win it, might even vote for him on social media, but deep down you know he's not THE best.
I could easily say that Lawrence and Etienne were the best QB and RB in the country. Spiller was phenomenal. Shipley isn't there yet, and might never be. But I'm glad we have him.

Shipley is solid and a tough yardage back. He does not fly like Spiller, runs more like Travis Etienne. I like him best on third and short or goal line situations. He surprises me getting into the end zone or the first down when he hits a pile and finds his way through. I love to see him pop out in the end zone with the pile behind him.
Along with Mafah we have a couple of the best backs in the country for 2023. They need to continue to share the load, so we can have them both available for December and January, along with Cade....
The most disappointing part of the Orange Bowl, was not running those guys a lot more. Instead, Cade ran 20 times and passed over 50. I guess that was Streeter's call, enough said.
Go Tigers!

Yes, and even if they had the #1 and #2 best stats in college FB this coming season, we wouldn't be hearing it said out loud by anyone other than our own fan base!!!! If we don't Pat our guys on the back and give them the credit they deserve they would never get it bc the sports media do actually dislike Clemson, and for whatever their reasons are they keep to themselves bc they don't want their readers to know how pathetically trivial their reasons are for their dislike of Clemson, or maybe it's just for Clemson sports!!!!

I get the feeling like you need more ESPN and ACC Network in your life.
I admit I watch them a good bit by nature (nearly all our games are on those two channels), but I don't know how you watch the games or college football content & I feel compelled to advise you to watch at least some of the content on those two channels for plenty of Clemson praise & even Clemson lettermen outright, for better or worse.

The ACC Network alone constantly beams over Clemson players (& rightly so). This was in response to the suggestion the media completely & deliberately hates or ignores Clemson players. Hope this helps clarify.
I love hearing about Clemson players in national media, like in the story above, know what I mean?

Many voices in Clemson nation are already acting like rating Shipley at 11 is disrespect? That's how I found out about this story, but c'mon, fam.
Coach Swinney just said how much we take this stuff for granted, albeit this one is absolutely meaningless and therefore ONLY worth celebrating IMO, know what I mean?
Clemson will face just one player on the entire list (& at home this year), the league is ours for the taking again but man, I always think it's exciting to see Clemson guys get respect like this... but all some people see is he's not at #1 & I don't get it.
This year he has legitimate Heisman opportunities finally, notably with two big games to end the season & possibly a third. If you start at #1, though, it's often easier to find doubt. I know this isn't a Heisman list, but still, it's hard to watch so many people jump straight to our guy being mentioned as one of the best instead being some deliberate kind of criticism or hate or something.
The future is bright, make no mistake, & Clemson is playoff-bound in 2023.

I think 11 is generous. Ship is a good RB, but not a Great RB. He is good at getting the yards he is supposed to. He does not have break away speed and moves average. The only thing I see him as above average in is yards after contact.

I don't believe that it's been the lack of talent by our offensive skill guys as the reason they haven't been winning the awards that special college players can be recognized for. I believe, and I have voiced my belief that has upset some that a lot of our guys that came in regarded as some of the best talent in the country, but have underperformed at the college level. I 100% believe that it's mainly bc of the position coaching they have been receiving in the past 3-4 years.
Take our WR's as an example, they haven't been near as good with them coming in rated the same, or very close to the same as our WRs that we were bringing in when we were being considered as WRU by most of our fan base along with some media members. They have been suffering from injuries that has kept them sidelined for weeks in many cases. It is my opinion that our WRs injuries have been at no less than twice the rate and for longer periods before they are actually ready to return as they were when Jeff Scott was our WR position coach. I also think that their reinjury rate after an injury is also higher than it was when Jeff Scott was our WR's coach...
I'm just wondering, am I the only one that's notice what I've said about our WR's since Jeff Scott left to become a HC. Also, when Jeff was our WRs coach, we had at least one, and some seasons more than one WR to get drafted somewhere in the 1st and 2nd round of the NFL draft with several that were drafted within the top 10 of the 1st round when Jeff Scott was our WR position coach!!!

Absolutely you're not the only one who's noticed the lack of elite-level competition in the WR corp. That outlier was so severe for me it's a big reason why (& I'm afraid to say this here) I'm not sure Streeter couldn't have been great, maybe even elite, rather than to be hated by so many of the loudest voices in Clemson nation for a single season's-worth of data.
I don't want to get into a Streeter battle of course, nor do I think the Riley hire was anything other than brilliant, but my point was only in response to your comment about nobody else noticing Clemson not having elite WR's is all.
Scott, too, made mistakes there, particularly on the way out (so to speak) including in both recruiting & development, but just one would have made a noticeable if not outright determinant last year.
Still, we can't hire Scott right now. He's collecting USF money & rightly so.

Mafah will be better built for NFL. McCaffrey while super talented couldn't make a 16-17 game season due to injuries. McCaffrey is faster than Shipley. Both are athletes but I think Shipley is small for RB and may plan on slot type player if he has the hands

McCaffrey played all 16 games in his first 3 seasons and played all 17 games this season.
In 6 seasons, he has played in every game in 4 of them and 75 out of a possible 97 games.
This is why eye-witness reports are unreliable

Stats show McCaffrey only played 11 games this season. And 2 years before he played 3 and 7. When Panthers threw him slot passes, short dumps and screens he was able to stay more healthy and was much more effective. When they tried to make him the primary RB running up the gut, this is when he was getting injured. Just like Shipley, they are too small to be a primary RB btw the hashes. They need to be given space so they can get moving.
Often Shipley is tackled by 1 hand, shoestring type tackles. If he could break that one hand tackle he would be deep into the secondary. You don't see that long arm shoestring tackles with Mafah and you never saw that with ETN. Coaches talked about ETN's trunks for legs. Maybe Shipley needs more leg strength to help break those hand tackles??
That said, I think Shipley could play NFL but limited plays between hashes and better in space plays. Mafah could be an every down, btw hashes and in space type player. Just a better body for the league.

Must have been written by someone who covers the B1G. Ohio State and Michigan each have two of the top 8 backs. B1G has 6 of the top 10. All 6 are pretty darn good but I just dont know if they are that good. Admittedly i havent seen all 25 of the running backs on the list play much

Raymond Lucas Jr. is a Weber State guy in San Antonio, Texas, though; I'm not sure he's ever been to the midwest, but he's certainly no B1G homer to be fair is all.
It's a great list the more I think about it; I'm not sure how I'd rank them outright but there's a relentless amount of natural talent in this group of players, make no mistake.

2 things, my friend. I live in San Antonio so this Lucas fellow must be good people. Also, I happen to be an Ohio State fan. I wasn’t necessarily ridiculing the author for being biased - so much as doubting whether that much running back talent could reside in one conference.

I tend to agree with you on that. Sadly, we really haven't seen what mafah can be. How we couldn't look at film and determine our gameplan against the yard birds escaped me. Should have fed mafah about 30 times that game.
But as for this article, I think 11th is generous for the gameplan we used for our games this season. Shipley getting chased down in the open field hurt him.

After watching a ton of Bowl games, I was totally convinced that Ship was somewhere between average and good. He can get a yard with the best of backs but if you are looking for breakaway speed, you have to look somewhere else. Unless one of the freshmen come in show something, Ship is our guy and I expect Riley to get him the ball on short passes and let him break tackles and go.
