Food for thought on 2019

Aug 1, 2019, 10:25 PM

So Football is back. And with it comes the nervous nellies and the out and out nay-sayers. The are once again saying that we lost too much talent on defense to be good this year.

Here's something to consider:

In 2018 Trevor Lawrence started and finished 10 games. In those 10 games we scored less than 40 points only 3 times. We scored less than 30 points 1 (one) time. Let that sink in for a moment.

We also happened to have the number one scoring defense in the land (the only stat that really counts by the way) As a result we really blew out a lot of teams in that stretch.

If you look, you will see that our defense would need to fall into the high 60s to low 80s in scoring D before our O wouldn't be able to compensate. (SC was 69 to give you a benchmark)

There is no way we fall that far on the defensive side of the ball. We may go from number one to the 20s or even 30s but that's about it. And that's more than good enough to get us back into the playoffs.

This year, our best defense might just be our elite offense.

Part of the reason our O was so good was our D. Our D gave them a lot of chances based on the number of three and outs not to mention really good field position. Plus the O can play loose when they have the lead knowing the Dwill not give up a ton of points.

The term is complimentary football

Agree. Lose a little here, lose a lot there. As Dabo says,

"Every year is a different team." Or something like that.

I believe BV has earned the right to not be doubted . He's always working through depth issues and losses ... the dude has it going like a turbo jet .
We may be thin at a couple spots ... but has anyone forgotten how well we've done on the recruiting trail the last few cycles .
Gracious , we too deep y'all .

Also , we play a fairly treacherless schedule according to everyone with a microphone .
That's a word , I saw it on sniglets about 37 years ago .
