for spring break. Where can you / can’t you drink on the beach? IIRC Sullivans Island is a no go and will write you the death ticket for open container. Also, any recommendations for where to hang out and where to fish from the shore or rivers/creeks? And also, where to hang out. Going with a couple guys that aren’t 21 so not a big drinking weekend I don’t think, but he is 22 so I’m sure he wouldn’t mind having a couple.
I’m looking at you Ineligible user®

Pretty safe if you aren't a jackwagon about it.
New city dock at the marina is an easy fishing spot. Breach Inlet, rocks at Fort Moultrie, MT P pier, Pitt Street Bridge and Shem Creek Dock? are under renovation right meow.
Tmell if you wanna chat

I can't imagine a faster place to get a ticket than that new dock at IOP.

As we both know, IOP really doesn't want anyone out there. I mean on the island, not just at the new pier.
I went down Shem in early January and the dock wasn't closed then, but it could be now. I haven't been by there since, but if it lays down a bit this weekend, I'll be going by it as I have a new depth finder I just installed and need to get tuned.

and some guy was proposing a toll for getting onto the island.
I generally remain quiet at these things because of work, but this time I spoke up.
He wants to charge any non-resident coming onto the island cus we use their streets and create traffic and make it slower for him to get home.
I asked how much the toll into Mt P should be for islanders coming to the mainland. He looked confused and I clarified that since they come into Mt P and use our roads and cause my ride home to be slower we should be charging them as well.
DA shouldn't have moved to the tiny island on an island behind the gates in the furthest corner of the island from the entryways

I always thought Sullivan's island would go private first

but now I think it will be IOP. When the housing and land prices doubled and tripled between 2021 to current, it completely changed who lives out there. The people that own property there now don't want anyone from outside there, and I think within 20 years will buy the streets from the state and privatize it.
The folks moving here are making the old village into a southern version of the Hamptons; It's already more expensive to live on Pitt or Haddrell streets than it is to buy in old town Key West.

If IOP does do that, it will probably kill The Windjammer.

That's about the only reason I would have left to go to IOP anyway.

I know of folks on IOP and Sullivan's who got the $1050 ticket for drinking there; I wouldn't risk it. Heck, I've known people on the end of IOP (you really can only get there by boat) standing in the water by their boat and got a ticket for drinking.
I hear that unless you are being a jerk Folly won't bother you, but it still technically illegal.
If they get to Folly, the folly pier costs $8 to go out on but its a good fishing spot. They could also drop a line in at the Mt Pleasant pier (almost under the Ravenel bridge on the southbound side), Breach inlet on the Sullivan's Island side, or even Shem Creek public dock (past Vickery's). On a good high tide the reds are up in the weeds near the end of Pitt Street Bridge.
Haddrell's Point tackle on Coleman Blvd is the place to get some bait, and those guys will know what is biting what (but cut mullet or cut crab is always a good shot). Water is still kinda cold in the harbor at around 56 degrees-so fishing might be slow, but it never hurts to try. Tell'em good luck!

Keep your head on a swivel while pouring; look for the dudes driving around in Gators and stuff, usually bright orange.
They know you're drinking when you're using a cup but they can't prove it and they don't care if you're discreet.
