Howdy from Texas!
Four of us are coming (we go to a new stadium for a game each fall) to the SMU v Clemson game this weekend. We are super excited, and will be decked out in clemson gear. (we always root for the home team when we travel). We are staying at an airbnb right next to campus.
I have had some suggestions thrown our way on where to eat, get drinks etc. We arrive Friday afternoon.
In your mind, absolute must sees or dos this weekend? Friday, before/after game Sat, Sunday morning brunch?
Thank you all! Go Tigers.

Still looks like an SEC garbage pile though.

I can’t eat fried mushrooms anymore, because one time a few years ago back in town I drank a lot and decided it would be a good idea to order these and eat the entire thing. I threw up so much that I can’t even look at another fried mushroom anymore lol!

October is the most beautiful month of the year in the Upstate, in my opinion. So, you picked a good time to visit.
You will be treated with respect, if you do the same. Unless some dude is loaded, then all bets are off. We're generally hospitable.
I know it sounds strange to go to an ice cream place, but there's history behind it, so Exchange '55 is worth it. If you like blue cheese, pick some up as well. https://www.clemson.edu/bluecheese/history.html
Esso is really the only "must see". It's just a place with good food, but again, there's history: https://theessoclub.com/pages/our-history
Tiger Walk is worth it, for sure. Also, if you like college soccer, the Duke-Clemson game on Friday in Historic Riggs Stadium is definitely worth it.
If you have any interest in Southern History, then you know the name John C. Calhoun. His connection to Clemson is significant. The house is nothing special, but it's an interesting piece of history: https://www.clemson.edu/about/history/properties/fort-hill/
There are some nice places to eat, as well, if you want something more than pub food: Rick Erwin's or Pixie & Bill's. Smokin' Pigs has VERY good BBQ AND sides.
Hope you have a great time. Welcome to Clemson, SC.

Go to Sloan Street Tap Room before the game.
Walk in the door and ask to speak to Jimmy. Introduce yourself to Jimmy.
No need to go anywhere else.

As you guys are from Texas you might want to skip Smokin Pig. The best BBQ I’ve had was Black’s in Texas. Awesome. Other suggestions are spot on! Go Tigers!

Texas BBQ is not BBQ. No comparison to good SC or NC bbq.

Re: First trip to Clemson - Call R and R golf carts immediately....

If your airbnb in right by town or in down town then rent a golf cart for the weekend and use it to get around town and stadium area.RR will deliver the cart to you in Clemson, at a prearranged spot. Go to downtown Clemson late afternoon on friday. Go to Tiger town tavern. a true dump but iconic. Go to another icon, Nicks bar, for craft beers and cocktails. Go to the stadium on the hill and look in from the gate to get a good full view of the stadium and the rock ( remember that team does walk throughs on friday afternoon so there may be a tarp over the gate to prevent spying on the team, but once team is finished , they will remove the tarp), ESSO club is good, but more of a game day experience for a couple of hours. Travel all around on the golf cart and tell them you want a gas one, so you can travel without fear of losing juice.

Thank you all for the recs!
We Esso’d it Friday night, great wings and fun atmosphere.
Sloan’d it and met Jimmy Saturday. He was super stressed about being towed, but eventually came over and we learned some major clemson history. $7 pitchers my goodness!
We then hit Tiger Tavern and TD’s before walking over to stadium. So much fun, GREAT wings at TD’s btw..
Sorry we couldn’t bring a W, but we want to come back! Our best trip so far.
